Ammonia odor

Well, after six month I got my first very strong whiff of the acrid ammonia smell with the windows open on my 08 5.7 Sequoia Limited. I think it started with gentle acceleration from a stop, and lasted about 15-20 seconds.

I have heard that this is related to the catalytic converter and the gasoline brand that I use? Is there any particular brand of gas that does this?

Anyone else experienced a fix for this?

Its the exhaust being sucked through the window. Happens to me all the time.

ive smelled a sulfur smell from the cat before, but i thought that was just during the break in process. never smelled amonia before.

Second on the sulfur smell. I've got 15k on my 08 platinum and still get the smell. For me it occurs on hard acceleration just after startup. I take my kids to daycare every morning and it is only about 2 miles away so the truck is not warmed up. I can get the smell inside the cabin (w/ the windows closed) and also smells pretty bad when I get out to drop the kids. On long trips or in town driving where you're not punching it it does fine, no smell.

Just my .02, not sure if there is a particular gas. I have not smelled ammonia however.

I also get the sulfur smell after hard acceleration in my 08 limited.

I also ALWAYS have a rank smell from my AC vents and that's on recirculate or fresh.

These smells are getting annoying!

Looks like there are more than one smells coming from the cat. I am familiar with the sulfur rotten eggs smell, but the one I experienced was more acrid and ammonia-like, like smelling salts!

You should lock up your cat in the garage!

I don't have the sequoia... can't help you on that.
