Default first oil change

hi all,
have a 2010 seq ltd.... drives much better than 07 denali XL it replaced....

anyway, i usually do my 1st oil change at 1500 to 2000 miles then every 5K ....
what's your thoughts on FIRST oil change interval? will be putting mobil1 5-30....

i also will cut out a square on the bottom skid plate the first time so that the plate doesn't have to be dropped everytime oil filter needs to be accessed.....

I changed mine at 1000 miles the first change then every 5k after that. Im using Mobil One synthetic. I did the "cut the access door flap in the skid plate" mod on both as well. I also used lock tight to permanantly secure the oil filter drain into the housing. Now all I do is remove one sheet metal screw and with a 12 in extension, remove the housing. Its SOOOOOOOooooooooo much easier.

ive never heard of anybody cutting an access hole like that, usually i just hear people complaining about what a pain in the *** it was. i was in afghanistan for the first two oil changes, i just had the wife take it to the dealership at 5K and 10K, 15K is coming up here soon and i'll be doing that one, i'll have to remember about cutting a hole out.

yeah, i did that on the tundra already but... is the sequoia ltd essentially same?
same type of skid plate under neath?

what do you mean by a oil drain tube?
also, why do you need to still access a sheetmetal screw? i cut the square out and threw away the piece....did you reattach it with a screw? (not a bad idea....)

i'm at 1600miles now so, probably will go ahead and change the oil...
DOES any one sell an aftermarket/nonOEM oil filter element for the 5.7l? is the filter same for tundra and sequoia 5.7l ? i have both so...

Wow! Okay, yes they are the same, same skid plate. When I cut out the access hole, I welded tabs on one and on the other welded a hinge, both, have a small tab welded to one side that I drilled a hole in then used a sheet metal screw to hold it in place. I stll have the material in place, but its removable now. I like the hinge method better, all you do is take out the screw and the flap falls open.
The oil drain tube is the center of the filter housing that they say to remove and insert the plastic piece in to drain the filter/housing. I just remove the whole thing now. It isnt any messier than doing it THIER way. Ill see if I can find a thread or take some photos.

For all of my new cars, the first oil change is at 1000 mi, 2000 mi and every 3000 mi thereafter. Since the Sequoia has an insert-type filter, I could clearly see fine metal shavings (this is normal) in the filter housing at the 1000 mi & 2000 mi oil changes. At every other oil change, there have been no metal.

My first oil change was free since I purchased my truck from that dealership. Try calling your dealership to see if your first one is free too. Might save you some money during these rough times. Then you can wait it out til your 2500k and do it again.
