Platinum 8 seater upgrade

So, ever since I purchased my sequoia, having the two captains chairs in the middle, and 3 kids all in car seats has been driving me crazy. The kid in the very back, always gets neglected, and can rarely hear him when on road trips. Then asking for snacks or really anything gets to be a huge pain.
I've looked for a whole bench out of a sequoia, with minimal luck, and the only one that was available wanted a crazy amount for it.
I finally decided I had enough.
I removed the middle seats, the storage centre console, and started researching some more.
My buddy came by same night with his crew Max tundra for some beers, and it quickly made sense. Did some measuring in his truck, and by dimensions, bolt locations, and comparison of the two, it looks as if the bench out of the crew Max should be a direct swap in. The only difference is it's a 60/40 split, not 30/30/30.
Not a big deal to me.
Anyways, i was able to find a wrecked tundra this morning, so just waiting on the seats being removed out of it in next few days. At which point I'll throw them in and keep everyone updated on whether this will be 100% or not.
Fingers crossed and staying hopeful that it'll work.

If it doesn't work let me know, I'll try to find the name of the place where I bought mine from (ran me $750 shipped for the whole bench) or I know of a few other yards where they might have it here in the states.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

Do the Tundra seats tilt forward or slide? I had a DoubleCab Tundra and the seat bottom tilted up and there was a "CrewMax like" mod to drop the back to have a flat surface in the back but none of the seats moved. Just wondering if putting the Tundra seats will make it impossible to get to the third row.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

The 07-13 tundra seats slide forward and backward and the seat backs fold flat. The 14-up models seat bottoms fold up to have a flat floor. That is both on the crewmax.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

Good luck! We'll have 3 in car seats in June Almost 5 year old, 3 year old and newborn.
I'll remove the center console for ours, we plan on having 2 car seats in 3rd row for a while until Mom or one of us don't have to ride next to newborn.
I am interested in moving the drivers side 2nd row seat to the center, forming a smaller bench seat. The seatbelt will not work when moved to the center, but latch will still work. This is similar to the way odyssey's work.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

Jim, please send me the info you have - I need a black leather bench for my 2011 SR5 - I have the same problem with the kids, but I have FOUR kids!!! LOL, I hate having to leave the big seat in the back up to fit them all... that takes up precious cargo room!

Very interested in seeing if the Tundra bench works too - but 750 shipped is insane and I will pay that yesterday!!
I dont even care if it is not black leather, I will get it re-upholstered to match for that price!

2011 SR5 Sequoia 4x4, 275/65/20 Nitto G2 on stockers, Bilstein 5100 x4 and 1.5" spacers over the rear coils, and more coming

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

Check out Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market. It's like Craigslist for auto yards and I found my bench at a yard in Seattle via that site. You'll also see lots of benches available from a place in CA, but they are asking for $$$.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

Got it done. Found a wrecked sequoia about 2 hours away, and lucky me, was a limited. Unfortunately, not a color match, but beggars can't be choosers.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

You may want to get a car seat protector. I got mine used and it had damage on a rear seat cushion from a car seat (which the dealer repaired).

Also -- weatherteach floormats....great for the expected misshaps that accompany the new little occupant!

When #2 came a long and outgrew the car carrier, we moved the older one & car seat to the 3rd row and the little one went to 2nd row center----so access to 3rd row was not hindered.

Re: Platinum 8 seater upgrade

+1 on the car seat protectors

I'd recommend husky mats over weathertech. I hate my weather techs in my tundra.
