2008 Sequoia Platinum Extended Warranty????

I just purchased a Toyota Certified 2008 Sequoia Platinum with 36K miles on it. Because the vehicle was certified I can also get an eight year, 100K mile warranty on it with $0 deductible through Toyota for what I think is a pretty good price (but still not cheap). So essentially I would be getting 54 months and 64K miles of coverage since the 8 years begins at the original service date of the vehcile.

So I'm wondering if you guys think the extended warranty is worth it? I still have the 1yr/12K mile bumper-to-bumper warranty that comes with it being cerified and another 42 months and 64K as part of the power train warranty. I've owned Toyota's in the past and I have never had an issue with one of them, but never anything as technologically advanced as the Sequoia (other than my 2008 Suburban that I traded in on it).

I've looked through the forums and I don't see many issues with it, so I'm really torn because I hate throw good money away on a vehicle that may never need it. That being said though, one major repair would easily chew up the premium (air shocks, DVD enterainment system, navi, etc.). So give me your thoughts based on your experiences with the vehicle.

Search on this forum and Toyotanation.com under 2nd Generation Highlander for threads about extended warranties. There are a number of Toyota dealerships around the country willing to sell you extended warranties for $75-$100 above cost. When I worked for corporate I could buy them at cost by doing my own paperwork which literally took 5 minutes. I guess those dealerships feel the same way. $100 for 5 minutes is a good rate of return.

Thanks for the response. I saw the price in the sticky on the 2nd Gen Highlander forum page. Are you telling me that the if I look at the T4 line that is the actual cost of the plan to my dealer? If so they are trying to charge me a 50% premium. And that is on top of the premium I paid to get rid of the Suburban and get the Toyota.

I don't know if the warranty prices listed are applicable to Toyota Certified Used Vehicles, they are applicable to new vehicles. I'd call a few of the dealers listed and inquire. It's not unusual for a dealership to try to make 2x-3x their cost on the warranties.

p.s. you can buy the warranty through ANY Toyota dealer and it is accepted nationwide, you're not obligated to get it through your purchasing dealer.

I just bought an Certified 10' Sequoia platinum and was thinking of getting an platinum zero deductable 8yr, 125K warranty. I am in the same boat as the OP. I've owned other toyota and never had any problems but never had an technologically advanced(air shocks, DVD enterainment system, navi, power lift gate....etc) vehicle. Don't know if I should get it or not and is it wroth it?

My Sequoia's factory warranty is about to expire in a couple of months so I had to get on this quick.

I just got off the phone with Jerry. Got the Toyota Platinum Extended Warranty for a great deal. Jerry made it a very smooth transaction. It took less than 10 minutes and I did everything over the phone.

Highly recommended!
