Default 2002 Sequoia- Another Broken Door Handle

Whatzup with Toyota's QA/QC on its door handle parts !

A year ago the inside door latch on the driver's side busted apart in my hand.

Last month the exterior tailgate PLASTIC latch broke .

Today I noticed the passenger side rear door's inside plastic latch is cracking.

Very dissapointed in the quality of material Toyota has used on our Sequoia. Hopefully, not the case on the drivetrain parts.

Anyone else seeing these problems? Is there a DIY for the inside latches replacement posted anywhere here?

Sorry for venting- but this is not the Toyota quality that I am used to.

Common Guys - I have the new inside handle to replace my broken one.

I've gotten the center screw out - but the inside rear passenger latch bezel will not come out.

What the trick? I see no other fasteners and I hate to use force for fear of breaking it.

I saw this last week when searching for hints to replace a broken side mirror (wife strikes again).

hi guys....just an FYI to remove the door handle surround/insert if its like the lexus, tundra...look between the top of the lock button above the door handle and the plastic insert surrounding it...u will see a slight indentation inside there...push a small flatpoint screwdriver up there between the locking button and the insert and the top of the insert will pop out..sometimes u have to do the same to the bottom of the insert between the door handle and insert...

I have had both front door handles replaced under warranty. Now I'm out of warranty, so I'm sure they will break again soon. I love my Toyota, but the handles are very sub-standard.

Cannot tell from the diagram - Do you have to remove the entire door covering ? Or can you replace the inner door latch after removing the plastic bezel?

You've got to remove the entire door panel before changing out the latch... (i.e. if I remember correctly).

These Sequoia door handles are the same as the Lexus LX and GX 470.

Default 02 Sequoia

We have replaced the door handle on the 02 Seq before & its starting to feel the same right before it cracked! For some reason when you get out the door lock is in the locked postion, safety feature, and when you pull the handle it has a catch to it, your basically pulling harder to open the dang door. It's not smooth when you pull the handle. Now when you unlock the door before opening you don't have to pull as hard to open the door. It's a minor thing but done several times a day for years & well you've got too many door handles bustin! Yea we have the same problem

Why don't you change the programming so that the doors unlock when you put the tranny in "P"ark? That should alleviate much of the stress and you handles should last a little longer... they will still break, just not as quickly.

You can search the site, but it will be far easier to check page 14 in our owner's manual. It was one of the first settings I changed when I got the truck, and I followed the instructions in the manual.

As much as I've looked through the manual you would think I would have noticed. Cool, thanks for the info

Default Re: 2002 Sequoia- Another Broken Door Handle

Hi Everyone,
I just saw this forum on google because I am trying to fix my interior door handle/lock on my 2003 Toyota Sequoia. Does anyone know where I can get this part please? Its frustrating trying to get out the door and having to wind the window down and get out that way.

I really need to find where this part is carried, what the technical name is called and where I can buy it and fix it.

I reprogrammed mine as well - it now unlocks as soon as it is placed in park. Directions in the manual.
