SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the second generation 2008 and later Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Welcome to TundraSolutions.com! - New Members/Owners Introduce Yourself Here!", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Congratulations on your purchase. I think you'll (or she) will see a huge difference between Toyota and Chrysler vehicles. Incentive, pole polishing, you can't go wrong.

If a combo of all these whizz bangs met their claims you'd have to syphon gas out of your tank every second day and sell the excess horsepower on the third????
4x2. 4x4's are somewhat unnecessary and hard to come by down here. If I move back home in a couple years (NC) I may regret that.

I wanted a 4X4 but for some strange reasons 4X4 are not available AS much as it is in the north or any other place. Up here in the North 99% are 4X4.. I have yet to see any 4x2 Seq yet other than mine.
I ended up getting the 4X2 because I didn't have time to look around.
Picked up a '01 Thunder Grey Limited 4x4 this weekend. What a great vehicle, coming from our old '91 Cherokee Sport 4x4, it is heaven. We took it on a 800 mile road trip and there were smiles and from the entire family.
Two questions...
1) Auto dimming rear view mirror? I don't see any mention in the manual, but the mirror has a small electronic eye, and LED and a power switch. I haven't driven in in the dark really, so I haven't see it do anything
2) 12V power outlets don't work; yes, I know the car must be running . The cigarette lighter works, but none of the extra power plugs do. I will go through fuses today, but according to the manual, all the fuse for the plugs (position 33 or 34 if I remember correctly)handles the load for a host of other systems as well, all of which currently work. I don't want to miss something silly and look like a fool when I take it in.
Welcome to this group, it's been helpful to me in finding answers. Unfortunately, I have none for your questions, but I'm sure someone will. I know what you mean about smiles from the family, my kids were pleased to get rid of the minivan we had. It had been reliable, but so, well, not cool!

We loved our Cherokee, it was an old war horse that until last year had never let us down. We lived in Europe for three years and left it to the care of family. The vehicle ended up siting in the Oklahoma sun for three years and was not driven for over 18 months It has given us countless problems since. Our family has grown as well, and the Cherokee became too small and the obvious lack of any real safety features and low back seats made us nervous.
Thanks for the welcome. This board has been very helpful already (I was lurking until purchase) and I look forward to jumping in where I can. I am very active on a BMW board as well, and enjoy the fact I have boards representing both our cars.
I had a '91 Cherokee that I loved, too. My first exposure to off-roading was in that Cherokee when my wife and I went on a road trip while she was 6 months pregnant with our first daughter. I learned a lot of things--like the tendancy of the V6 to overheat and to make sure to check and tighten the wheels bolts nightly (I only lost one ).
I think all limiteds have the autodimming mirror. You can easily check how it works during the day. When the car is running, cover the light sensor on the back of the mirror (facing the windshield) with your fingers. The image should dim or turn greenish. Then cover the front light sensor with your thumb and the image should go back to normal.
As for the fuses, make sure you check all the locations. In addition to the area in the driver's foot well, there are also a couple of fuse boxes in the engine compartment on the battery side.

When the mirror is "on" the mirror will automatically adjust for any glare such as bright headlights behind you. You'll see a noticable change from the bright glaring white lights to a subtle greenish hue.

Note: There are two sensors on the mirror. One facing forward and the other facing backward. The auto dimming will not activate if the sensor facing forward detects any amount of light. Try covering the forward facing sensor with your hand, open the door, the light from the interior of the truck should engage the autodimming feature.
I tried the various tests for the mirror mentioned here and yes it does function as everyone says. I wonder why there is nothing in the manual about it...
I solved my power plug problem as well. When I went through the fuse listing the first time, I was looking at the listing for the underhood fuses and not the fuse box inside the vehicle. Once I looked at the right list, I was quickly able to find the burned out fuse.
Hi I'm Frank. I was pretty active on this forum a few years ago. I had a 01' Tundra 4wd. I seriously can't remember my old username. So, now with a new computer, I've signed up as a new member.
I ended up selling my Tundra back to the dealership. I turned around and put the money down on a 02' Sequoia SR5 2WD. I've owned it for about 2+ years. It's been a good SUV so far. I definitely remember Simias. I just can't remember my old username.
Anyhow, I'm glad to be registered and logged in again. Maybe someone can help me figure out who makes aftermarket shocks for my 2WD Sequoia? I can't find an aftermarket company that offers any. Everything I've found only fits the 4WD. Also, I'm actually looking for the rears.

Hi John,
I did try the search engine. It doesn't contain any information regarding who makes aftermarket shocks for my 2wd Sequoia. Here is what I found on Tokico's application guide:Tokico Shocks
They don't make aftermarket shocks for the Sequoia.
