SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the second generation 2008 and later Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Welcome to TundraSolutions.com! - New Members/Owners Introduce Yourself Here!", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
2001 Seq Ltd Black, 36K miles, new tires, leather, moonroof. I tried mightily to buy another Volvo (I've had 1973 145 and 1990 245). But new Volvos have less interior room (or need adjustable headrests) and I need a lot of headroom. So, hear I am. Seq has great space, quiet, smooth, and view out.
I'm still figuring out the deal with TSB and the extended "gold" wraparound warranty. I may not be happy.

But can't wait to get to NC Outer Banks! MrK
Not new to the site, but new to the Sequoia. I just traded my '00 Tundra (see my photos) on an '01 Sequoia (see sig). What's this extended "gold" wraparound warranty stuff?
Outer banks, are you coming here on vacation or moving here? I just moved here a month ago from Lewistown (State College), PA....gimme a holler if/when you'll be on the Banks.
Hello all, I am a new member to TundraSolutions, I wanted to get info on anyone who has pulled a Travel Trailer with their Sequoia. Any problems or concerns?
Picked up a 2004 Limited 4WD on Dec 31, 8 hours before a big dump of snow in Oregon. Timing is everything.
Found this forum last night and already solved two mysteries including the load leveling suspension puzzle and the gas pressure sound near the gas cap.
After 4 years of faithful service I sold my 01 Sequoia and have just taken delivery of an 05 Limited. All in all it is a more refined package than the 01 and I am very pleased. There does seem to be some sort of a resonance sound at 1,700 RPM in the first 3 gears under light load ( when accelerating with light throttle.) I am curious if any other 05 owners with the VVT engine have experienced this or if anyone has any theories. I have less than 100 km on it so perhaps this is something that will diminish with beak in.
I ran across this site doing some research before purchasing my '05 Sequoia. I am glad I found you. There is some really good advice and experiences here. I have been a Toyota owner for many years (had to put up with the wife's hand-me-down Acura for the last 5 years - good car though!) I have only had the '05 Sequoia for a couple of days, but I love it. Big change for me because I am not used to driving such a large vehicle.
I live in Des Moined and ended up getting my Sequoia in Kansas City. The dealers down there offer some great 3rd party options - I went with a set of 20" Weld Evo wheels and Toyo tires and a custom 15" overhead DVD monitor. My 5 yr old just love to watch his movies in the truck.
Just wanted to post up here on TS. I am picking up my 05' Sequoia on Saturday (10.02.04). It's Phanton Grey SR5 2X4 pretty loaded up. Sport Package, Moon Roof, Convenience Pkg., etc...
I own a lifted 2001 Double Cab Tacoma and that is the family 4X4. I spend a lot of time on the TTORA boards but this board seems to be the only comprehensive Sequoia forum out there.
First mods will be to open the motor up a bit and try to squeeze a few more HP's/MPG's out by installing a new Exhaust System and High Flow Air Filter.
I'm suprised that there aren't very many lift options out there yet for the Sequoia. That is another post all together and an option I plan in the far future (after warranty has run out). Any recommendations on brand names for upgrades will be welcome and appreciated.
I had the MagnaFlow cat-back system installed on my '05 limited last week and I love it. Big difference in the sound since the stock system makes virtually no noise. MagnaFlow doesn't specifically list a kit for the '05, only the '03 or '04, but it fits like a glove. Takes about an hour or so to install and uses all the factory hangers. Dual 2.5 inch in and 3 inch out with a large polished oval tip. Uses a large oval 5 x 11 x 22 stainless flow through muffler.
100% stainless steel and lifetime warranty. Costs around $500.00
last week to replace an 03 that was totaled (no injuries). The 05 is slightly quicker off the line and the 4WD system has been updated (all push button). Other minor improvements but nothing tremendous. Ride is still truck-like but acceptable for this type of vehicle. Dunlop tires are inferior and should be Michelin. Of note, the window sticker states that this model with the leather seat option group is supposed to have heated seats but it didn't. Probably a mistake by Toyota but they will have to make good on it.
What is the purpose of raising a vehicle like this? The suspension geometry is designed for a certain height/weight combination and raising it will create a higher center of gravity which will increase your roll-over risk.
Can't really tell if MPG will be better yet. I have too many things going on to isolate the Cat-back savings. I'm running the TRD air filter and I only have 1100 miles on it. I'm going to drop the oil soon and run Amsoil series 2000 from now on. I will be able to get a better idea once break-in is over.
I've only run a couple of tanks through it and getting 13.5 - 14 MPG. Almost all city driving. I'm hoping that number will go up a little as my mods kick in and the ECU gets a little smarter.

That has been pondering in the back of my mind ever since I joined last year.
The manufacturers have specifically made our Seq. as safe as possible.
a good combo and cost effective would be a magnaflow swap using the stock piping and a trueflow intake. Your in AZ, so it would be easy for them to work with you.
I considered a swap as well. The problem is that Toyota uses a dual inlet muffler, which there aren't many options for, but the inlets are not centered. That requires the muffler shop to custom bend some pipes to fit an aftermarket muffler. The same is true on the outlet. They would have to custom bend a pipe to fit. After its all said and done, you end up spending 3/4 the cost of a full cat-back and you can't go back to the stock system because you now have cut factory pipes with custom bent extensions.
For me the choice was easy. Spend a little more and have the full system, which is a larger diameter, 100% stainless, mandrel bent, lifetime warranty and tuned exactly for this application. Plus, if I so desire, I can bolt the stock system back on.

Some of us actually take our families on off-road outings and the extra clearance would help. For people who buy a 4x4 SUV for other reasons, extra clearance is not an issue.
