Default 01 Sienna Check Engine light

My wifes Sienna has 97k on it. We took it in to the dealer for service on wednesday. Yesterday the check engine light came on while was driving home after work. I called the dealer and made an appointment to have it checked out today. After 2 hrs wait the service advisor told me the onboard computor was bad. the estimate to replace it is $1680.00. I am trying to decide what to do. Trade or repair it. We bought it new and it is excellant condition. Does the price seem fair? I did ask for trade value on an 08 just for the heck of it. The van was worth $5100 trade value. Seems awfully low to me since I know the dealer can fix the prob for a lot less than my cost. I am thinking about having an independant garage run diagnostics. Thanks for any suggestions.

If you get the number from the old pcm, you can get a used one and it will cost you a ton less.

What is the reason for the replacment ( what is the code? ) If you can find out I could do some checking on it for you.

Hi. I am a new member and was browsing this morning. My situation is very similar - dealer said the ECU was bad (problem code p0420). Do you have any insight? Thanks for any help you can offer.

I have a 2002 sennia with 97K miles.
the sevice engine light came on the other day
took van to O'Reilly's they ran the codes
is was a P1135

The next day the service engine light went out, have driven it a couple hundred miles, no more problem. Did add a can of seafoam, I do that 3/4 times a year.
code list
OBDII OBD2 Diagnostic Trouble Codes - P1100 - P1199

Toyota OBD-II Trouble Codes

another good van site:
SiennaClub.org Forums -> 1998 - 2003 good site too

Some way to reset codes, disconnect battery, or something, however, I did learn that the compute may take a few days to reset, why I do not know.

Guess we are setup, van wants to go back to dealer no matter what.

Good luck,
same as me, we think we have a great vehicle that has given us almost no problems for about 100K then we start to see the sensors go.

I believe there are three that go about this time. All related to emissions and will cut mileage if not fixed.
