Removing driver side front seat

My Haynes manual for my 2001 Sienna says that before removing the seats, you must deactivate the airbag system. This is accomplished by disconnecting the battery, then waiting 5 minutes for the backup system to run out of juice. Has anyone removed their front seats, or do you have any experience with the airbag system? Thanks.
