Question Sliding Door Can't be Opened 2001

Our rear sliding door's handle broke awhile back and just the other day my son switched the child safety lock now I cannot open the door. Should I replace the handle first or can I unlock it without replacing the handle? Pictures would really help.

I had the same problem.I had to pull off the inside door panel with the door closed.There are a few bolts you need to remove and then the panel you can pull off.It is not easy but it can be done.Once the panel is off you can access the levers on the door latch mech. Good luck

Thanks after taking a break I finally got the panel off. And is was a little difficult.
