SIenna Ligtgate Handle Broke Help

Guys, today of all days on Xmas the door handle to my wife's 99 Sienna broke into two pieces as I tried to open it. Of course it is in the closed position. I can replace it if i can get it open to remove the interior trim. However, I can't get the cable to pull out to open the door. I have the Factory repair manual but could use some advice on getting it open to repair. Help please!

Worked beautifully. $57 bucks from the dealer for the part and it's like new. Thanks again.
