SiennaGeneral discussion forum for the Toyota Sienna.
This is a discussion thread titled "Sienna Radio Problems", within the Sienna forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Has anyone had a problem with the factory radio system in a 2006 Sienna LE going out? My radio will play music but the display will fade out or go completely out and the volume/station buttons will stop working. The only way that I can correct the problem is to turn the van off and restart the engine?
I am going to the dealer in a week or so, I just wanted to see if anyone had the same problem.
Just chiming in, we've also experienced the same problem. The dealer has seen it and SUPPOSEDLY they were going to order a new radio. We haven't heard anything and it's been a week now. Does anyone know how long they normally take to come in. This is my first Toyota and we love the van but this is my first experience with this dealer and the service department, I'm hoping it goes well but so far the lack of feedback has me wondering .
Not exactly the same problem, but my brand new Sienna Ltd has terrible AM radio reception. It barely picks up any signals and those that I try and listen to are mostly static. FM seems fine, though. I brought it to my Toyota service folks and they say everything is in order but it may be 'a Sienna thing'. Has anyone else seen this?
The first two years we had the van in the Summer for some reason the radio would go crazy. The LCD would have what looked like Japanese letters coming off and on. After I shut the car off and turned it back on it would continue to do it for about an hour. Later after shutting the car off for hours and starting it would go away. I happend on four occassions on very hot days. This was the first and second summer we owned the vehicle. This summer I waited for it to happen again, but no luck.
My first post so please be kind. Wasn't sure to make a new post or add to this one.
I too am having a radio problem. Its on a 2004 Sienna. Just started today.
I read the previous posts so I am not too hopeful of an easy (cheap) solution. Here is the problem:
My wife always uses the CD player. Today she inserted a CD and it wouldn't play. She tried to eject... no use. I looked at it and there was no display, the cd wouldn't eject, and the radio wouldn't work, though music (not cd) was playing, wouldn't scan/seek, etc. I pulled the 3 fuses to no avail, even pulled the battery (needed cleaning anyway) and when I reinstalled the music that had played earlier had stopped.
I have a 2006 Sienna LE with 20,300 miles and the Factory Radio started to act up when Summer started. When I turn on my Radio I would get Astrics symbols ( 102.7* ) . When I turn on the volume I would get ( ******** ).
I noticed that this happens on very hot days as well. Just like SiennaDavef had. I went to a dealer and they said that they could not find anything wrong with it. Of Course NOT. because it only happens in hot days. I will drive my Van to the dealer directly next time when it happens.
My family is having a similar problem. Earlier today the radio started going crazy. The screen started showing a bunch of random characters and none of the buttons worked. We have a 2007 Sienna, but we use to have a 2004 and it had the exact same problem. If you have any infomation on how to fix this please send me an email. (My main email address is geoff@wallhome.com).
I also have a 2004 and had the EXACT same problem 1 1/2 years ago. Went to my local dealer, they were VERY nice and ordered a new radio...it did take 3 weeks to arrive although the warned me it would be that long up front.
Everything was fine till yesterday. The radio died again. I've owned my car for 2years and 10 months, and as Murphy's Law would have it, I am 600 miles past the warranty. I'm getting ready to call Toyota right now....am very disappointed!
Do you happen to know where you Sienna was manufactured. Just wondering if some of us got a bad "lot" so to speak.

Thu Mar 13 08: I have a 2004 Sienna and had same problem of radio not being able to shut off and display blank. Problem went away. I was hoping it was a fuse but I am getting scared. I think this van has a defective radio!!!!
Fri Mar 14 08: Problem has not re-occurred so far. Started van about 6 times so far. If it does not happen in the next few days I am not going to replace radio but will ask the dealer when I go do an oil change on Monday.
Sat Mar 15 08: Problem has not re-occurred. Toyota is unaware(at least will not admit it). I replied with this link.
Dear Mr. xxxx:
Thank you for your recent correspondence.
From time to time, it is necessary for Toyota Canada Inc. to issue special service campaigns for vehicles. When this is done, owner's of affected vehicles are notified by mail. As only certain vehicles, manufactured at certain times are included in these campaigns, we would like to take this opportunity to advise you that there are no outstanding campaigns on the provided VIN: xxxx that would explain this issue. Toyota Canada Inc. is not aware of any common concerns as described in your e-mail, as such we are unable to make suggestions or recommendations. As you can appreciate, we are unable to provide a diagnosis through the medium of correspondence.
As well, we would like to mention that intermittent conditions may be difficult to diagnose if they are not experienced first-hand by the service staff. We can only suggest that you discuss this directly with the Service Manager at your Toyota dealership. Should they require technical assistance, they may contact Toyota Canada directly.
Thank you for taking the time to contact us.
Sincerely,
