Angry Was it a ripp Off?

My 2001 Sienna is my second car in the household and bought it in May 2003 with 36000 miles on it. It was "Dealer Certified" and promised the condition was as good as new. So far so good. My wife brought it to the dealer yesterday for an oil change job with 44100 miles on it.

However, she was persuaded into a $294.38 (before tax) job of replacing 6 cylinder timing belt and replace engine belt ($218 for labor and $76.38). She said the service writer recommended it.

I was furious for these kind of tactics on the ignorant of women. Our last car had the timing belt done at 125 000 miles. I checked on Toyota Scheduled Maintenance guide (5.5" x 8.5" x 1/4" thick). On page 35, it say to replace timing belt at 90,000 miles. Was it a ripp off for the service writer commission? Was it necessary at 45,000 miles with no problem in driving? I am thinking of writing to the local BBB and complaint. Please give me you feedback.

By the way, she was also sold on a $119.95 ($74 labor + $45.95) on EFI Flush.

I can see the steam coming out your head and I would be really be upset myself. Try the diplomatic route first,...go back to the dealership and ask to see the owner or manager and point out to the belt replacement schedule to him. Ask for a full refund. If you don't get satisfaction contact Toyota US Head Office.

Good advice, are you sure it wasn't the fan belt, l because the timing belt would cost more than $200 worth of labor, and its due 72 months or 90,000 miles heres the recommended time off Toyota dealer sites in my area southeast. I would be more mad at her for not calling you, I expect dealers to be crooks.

the efi flush was a rip. the timing belt was a favor.
the fuel injection flush is the biggest rip off in the business. it went out in the 80's. yspert
