Default Replacing PS pump on '98 Sienna XLE

I've got a pretty bad leak on the PS system. I haven't pinned down the source but I suspect it may be the pump. Does anyone have experience changing this out? I'm a pretty handy DIYer but not a mechanic. Is this something I could tackle or would it be best to leave it to a pro? I can pick up a used pump fairly cheap and I'm selling the van (just bought an '06 Tundra) so I just want to get the leak taken care of without spending a lot of money.

Thanks,

Steve

You might want to double check your leak. I just put a power steering pump on my wifes 98 and come to find out it was the rack that was leaking. It's leaking from the boot that comes out of the rack on the passenger side. Pump took me about 4 hours but I work really slow and take it easy. One trick is to let the mount swing down so you can remove the bolts that go through the pump. Also take off the pulley first, makes it alot easier to see the mounting bolts. And take off the bolt that holds the low side inlet to the pump, don't try to take off the clamp on the low side. If you need to replace the clamp pull the low side hose up to the top of the motor and do it there, when finished thread it back down and don't forget to throw a new o-ring on there. Good luck, I'm going to call some shops and get a quote for the rack, no way in hell I'm going to do that.

I need to get a good look from underneath to verify the source. The leak is dripping on the driver's side , which soulds like the oposite side from your problem. Good luck getting your rack problem squared away.
