: Are using brake dust shields?

I can see already that the front wheels require constant cleaning to remove teh brake dust. I've done a lot of reading and over time this stuff will eat away at the coating on the wheels. I've decided that I'm going to add some inner dust shields.

Kleenwheels is one of the most popular, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with similar products made by other companies?

Do tell...
Thanks

My experience with those things several decades ago indicated they do keep the brake dust down but can cause overheating of the brake rotors. In spite of what the manufacturer says they do inhibit cooling air flow over the brake assembly. If you live in a flat terrain area without having to use your brakes frequently you'll probably be OK. In my case with a lot of city driving in a semi-mountainous area it wasn't long before my brakes overheated and my rotors had to be turned down. I removed them and kept my wheels waxed and cleaned them each wash and dealt with the difficulty.

I've pretty much arrived at the same conclusion. Two car shops told be that did not advise installing the. Waxing will be less expensive and easier in the long run.

I have used Kleen Wheels on several vehicles spanning almost 25 years. While they cut WAY down on brake dust on the out side of your wheels the back sides get trashed. I've never knowingly had a brake heat issue, probably because I didn't know exactly what to look for. One thing for sure ... they can visually transform a beautiful set of wheels into something looking cheap ... not much better than a set of common hubcaps. This is especially true with 5, 6 or 7 spoke wheels. Not so noticeable on older Mercedes type wheels like the '84 240D I drove for 200K with them installed. Without the Kleen Wheels I had black front wheels after about 50 miles! From my own past experience and now driving an '07 RAV4 Limited, I'd rather clean brake dust off a little more often than cheapen the looks of a nice vehicle with these black discs. It's damned if you do and damned if you don't.

Just put a set of ceramic pads on.
I've used ceramic pads on my vehicles for years and never had a problem with rotors.
Many auto manufacturers are using them now as stock equipment.

How much more do ceramic ones usually run compared w/ conventionals? Do they last any longer?

I have found that ceramic pards are very harsh on rotors....they actually do not stop as well until heated up from my experiences. Just my .02 cents
