: Any advice for a cold weather trip? TRD4LiFe80 12-10-2007, 04:57 PM I am planning to stay in the Tahoe area for a little over a week and was wondering if there is anything I should prepare my truck for. (i.e. oils and other fluids) I think the average temp. ranges from 0F to 20F where I'll be staying. My truck will not be in a garage. Also the altitude might reach 8000 ft. I will not be doing to much driving but if I do it will most likely be off-road. Any help would be great.:tu: Hickleberry 12-10-2007, 04:59 PM Winter windshield washer fluid

Make sure your battery has plenty of cold cranking amps.
Get a small bottle of deicer and don't store it in the truck. Only use this to get in the locks if they freeze up so you can start the truck and let it warm up.
Take two ice scrapers. On in the truck and one outside.
Go to your favorite place to get the oil change and tell them where you're going and what you are doing and let them do a cold weather check and preparation on your truck.
Tow strap
Hope that helps. TRD4LiFe80 12-10-2007, 05:07 PM Make sure your battery has plenty of cold cranking amps.

Ya, will do that
Thanks dudes Hickleberry 12-10-2007, 05:07 PM On my last post, I didn't notice your truck was an 02, so you might want to have you anti freeze checked or replaced if it hasn't been done recently.
The lock de-icer is a good tip, put it in the back of the truck somewhere, a lot of people put it in their glove box...a lot of good it will do there when the doors are locked. lol gorpet 12-10-2007, 05:09 PM Same as above, but check your antifreeze and just too be safe and winter boots and clothing and never let the gas tank go below half way. Its alway nice to sit in a idelling truck while you wait for a tow truck Hickleberry 12-10-2007, 05:22 PM Same as above, but check your antifreeze and just too be safe and winter boots and clothing and never let the gas tank go below half way. Maybe some snacks too. If you are going to wait, you shouldn't go hungry.
Oh, and a fully charged cell to call that tow truck. Hispeed 12-10-2007, 05:23 PM Snow chains Derek24 12-10-2007, 08:15 PM Maybe some snacks too. If you are going to wait, you shouldn't go hungry.

What tow truck? We're talking about the Tundra here, the name is what it is for, "the tundra". Now if you were driving a Chevy it would different story. Hahaha:) I think the average temp. ranges from 0F to 20F where I'll be staying. My truck will not be in a garage.
Aside from the 8000ft, pretty much a normal day here in Chicago. :D
Mine doesn't go in a garage at night either. Make sure you warm her up before taking off though.
During the winter months, I take these along just in case:
- long reach scraper
- small collapsible shovel
- extra windshield fluid
- jumper cables
- blanket
- energy bars (non-perishable food) in the glove box
- tow cable
We're getting hit with an ice-storm tonight. Tomorrow will be interesting... Hickleberry 12-11-2007, 07:13 PM Aside from the 8000ft, pretty much a normal day here in Chicago. :D

Lucky you. lol
I've only been to Chicago in the summer and fall, the fall was really cold and windy, I'd hate to be there in the winter....sends shivers down my spine thinking about it. ThomasE 12-11-2007, 07:26 PM I always carry a shovel with me whenever I go into the Sierra's in the winter. molecule 12-11-2007, 09:26 PM We just spent Thanksgiving week at Harvey's in Stateline , Weather was clear all week long temp got down to 14 at night ,44 during the day .
