OK...what is a throttle body spacer and how does it work? I have a K&N CAI on my 07 tundra and as I took off the intake hose I noticed the throttle body. This brought to mind the throttle body spacers I see on ebay and I'm curious how they work.
By the way...that K&N Sh&t with my flowmaster duals is ridiculous. It sounds awesome!

First of all, throttle body spacers don't work.
Second, they supposedly spin the incoming air around to supposedly mix the fuel and the air better which supposedly makes it burn better.
Don't waste your money.

like one of those vortex things they sell for $14.99 on ebay--right next to the "performace chip" that increases your power by 50 hp?

Yeah, that's it. Save your money and put it towards something useful, like headers.
Toyota engines come very well tuned from the factory, and there isn't anything you can do to improve on that using just cheap bolt-ons. If you want to increase performance, you need to spend some serious buckaroos.

just out of curiosity...
is there no possibility to "chip-tune" the engine...?? ( allthough i think the hp's in the tundra are more then enough... )
( that's what i had done on my landcruiser "prado" and it gives 40 hp more, not forgetting the raise of torque... )

The first-generation Tundras could be outfitted with a Uni-chip. It is a performance module that piggy-backs on the factory engine computer. But they are not cheap. A new one costs about $800US. They do increase performance, but a lot of folks don't think it is enough to justify the $800 expense.
I have one that I bought used. I'm happy with it, but I only paid about $300, and definately would not pay $800.
Not sure if they have a Uni-chip for the 2-gen Tundras.

wow cyberbilly, you say it isn't cheap... the chip installed in my landcruiser set me back some $ 1.800,00...
( cars, trucks and all the extras are so bloody expensive overhere, specially compared to what you pay for it, you don't wanna know... )

i have a throttle body spacer in my truck, and there is very little to no difference in performance/gas mileage.

I got suckered in, back in the day...I took it out after realizing all it did was make the engine whistle.
Also got suckered in with a K&N "filtercharger", but that's another story.

Like Cyberbilliy said, don't waste your money. If the cash is burning a whole in your pocket, then you can make a contribution to my 2 yr old's 529 plan.
Think about it...If it only cost a manufacturer $15 to put another piece in the throttle body and then be able to crank out 50 more HP AND get better mileage, don't you think they would have done it at the factory?
I get Salt Lake City, UT tv channels and on one of the news stations there's a program called "Let Bill Buy it and try it" (or something like that), where this news caster named Bill buys these kinds of goofy stuff and actually puts them to the test. It's a cool little program (the rest of the SLC news is a joke), and a couple years ago Bill tried out the those Vortex hurricane throttle body things, and proved they were a complete joke and waste of money.
