I have a 2006 DC and I just ordered a bec106 but I have no idea yet where I am going to mount it. I have a couple of questions for those that already have the cameras, Where was the camera mounted from the factory? Is there a tailgate handle made for my old truck?

I mounted mine on top of the trailer hitch and below the bumper. I used the provided 3M adhesive and then ran a zip tie around the hitch and wire to make sure I didn't lose it in case the adhesive failed. Let me know if you want me to take a picture.

Yes, please post a picture of the mount and the screen in use.
Do you have a good field of vision from the mount so low? no risk of having a rock or mud or debri knocking it out?

there was No camera from the factory that year 2007 has it but not on the 2006 old body style..There is a few aftermarkets coming out with a Handle but as right now None yet..

Bummer. I was hoping to get a part number from here for the handle.
Are you keeping track of this, like how far ahead would the handles be available?

I have a back up camera on my 2004 Tundra with the Pioneer Z1 navigation system and mine is on my hitch. I am kepting tab's on the Handle Because i'm intrested to be first in line for it. I know the cost is $240 and one supplier is trying to make them but No information as yet on when and where. I'll try to find that post for you when i have Time.

On the hitch is perfect and its mounted so you can still have a ball attached and can hook up with a trailer without un-installing anything. Its out of the way and I have had it for about a year and no problem. I will work on a picture, but I believe its posted on one of these threads. Its connected directly to the OEM Nav which gives a great picture and adjusts at night (when the headlights are turned on).

Check out my gallery. I have a pic of the bec-105 mounted in the tailgate handle. Its really easy to do. Do a search, there are some members who have posted a how 2 with pics. Takes about 1-2 hours. Great spot for hitch alignment for towing.:D

anyone have troubles with people stealing them off the truck? That the biggest reason i'd want one built into the handle.

The good thing about having it mounted in the handle, is not everyone notices it (kinda stealthy). I also mounted mine with 2 small bolts, so you couldnt take it off if you tried.:thumb:

I liked yours is there a better way to mount it that it doesn't show at all. Im edging on doing something similar because I No longer want to wait on the aftermarket to do this mod. I would like to do your setup but i want mine more recessed into the handle so it not some tacky aftermarket item. Is there another camera that is more recessed and smaller yet provide a good view too? I did order a new color keyed white handle on mine and it shows up next week I then will get my Dremel drill out and start cutting this new Handle up.

You cant move the camera any farther up or it will hit the handle. If there was a smaller camera available, you might get it a little farther up. Overall nobody really notices it. Even my friends dont, unless I tell them and they are looking for it. Its really easy to do, took me about an hour (with cable already run). To run the cable and an extra hour or two, depending on how neet you want it. If you do a search, there are a couple of members who have a detailed write-up with pics. Good luck.

I did get mine mounted up underneath the handle, it works really good, too bad I can't use it.
I am in Afghanistan, been here for one month, on a 15 month tour, my last one. I miss driving my Tundra, in smooth roads without anything to worry about, hehe. On a side note, about 80% of the vehicles here are Toyota, no Tundras, but a lot of the new Hilux (Tacoma with a steel bed) with the 3.0 Turbo diesel/auto transmission, biiiiiiiiig torque.

now, it pains me to see the price of gas go so high, and all of us that own trucks just take a hit where it really hurts. When I bought my tundra, I had intentions of keeping it no matter what, so I'll just have to buy a beater when I get back, and drive my Tundra just on weekends. Another one of our liberties in America is pets. While anyone can have one in the states, the only dogs around here are mine dogs, their job is to go smelling for explosives and mines.
We can't touch them, and it makes me miss my golden retriever very bad, and appreciate what I have at home, even if its not much. Before coming here I spent a year in Baghdad, I also went to Bosnia, and a whole bunch of other places, and I truly believe that there is no place like ours, even with all our conflicts and defects. May God bless America.
