Hi all. I have a chance to purchase a 1992 Toyota 4wd extended cab pickup, with the 3.0L V6/automatic for only $600, which seems like a steal to me. ? The owner says that the engine has a rod knocking. I think this truck is still worth this, but not sure. I have heard of this before on other 3.0L as well as bad headgaskets, which I think should be replaced at the same time with the engine apart.
Can anyone tell me about how much $$$ I will be looking at into getting the rod knock fixed, as well as headgaskets on this truck?
Thanks in advance!

Rod knock sounds like a complete tear down and rebuild, $600 and a replacement motor sounds good if the rest is decent. check the scrap yards for a motor, its a common motor, they can give you a quote to install it.

Thanks. I may be able to offer even less than that for it and get it. I am not sure of the body or interior, but he said it was good. I have not personally seen it yet.... its about 45 miles away and I cannot get to look at it until Wednesday- my next day off.
I thought if it needed a complete teardown, would be a good time to install new headgaskets as well. Not sure if it would cost a small fortune for a engine rebuild/replacement - to exceed the price to buy another truck in good working order.
I really do not need it, nor have the room for it, but I have wanted one of these trucks for a long time (especially an automatic model).
Thanks again.

If you have the time, I would have a reliable mechanic go over it...just to make sure you know what yer gitting... ;)

I would not try to fix the existing motor if it really had a rod knocking. I would just get one from a junk yard. If the rest of the truck is in decent shape then $600 is a good price.

Nothing cheap to replace on older Toys, but for 600 bucks and it has all the fenders what could be wrong with that deal, just be preparred for expensive replacement parts. If you will be doing the labor it would be a no brainer! My 93 has the following new parts
