does it say that on the original window page vehicle specs ? or where?
and what differential oil should i use in 2003 2wd tundra rear diff?
thanx in advace. Big_Al1 05-12-2008, 09:41 AM If you have original window sticker yes it should say it if not have dealer check the vin.For fluid spec refer to owners manual it should have with lsd and without lsd. sr5mike 05-12-2008, 09:45 AM You can look on the rear diff. It will have a sticker that says LSD oil only. If you have that you know you do. It will be on the window sticker too. tommycod 05-12-2008, 10:48 AM You can look on the rear diff. the diff has a washed out , paper sticker in the middle that is about 1" by 2" but after 5 yeears has lost all the ink; my orig window sticker says nothing about ls diff so i guess i dont have one; the manual calls for a 75w-140 oil in non LSD.
:ts: to all. Thundra04struck 05-12-2008, 11:11 AM This has been posted before, but you could wait for a rainy day, hit the gas in a parking lot, break the rear end loose, if the rear end kicks out, you have an LSD. I have a blast in the snow flat-tracking around the snow covered streets with it. 04DSGTUNDRA 05-13-2008, 09:50 AM TRD package= LSD. you have lsd. and ALL limiteds came with LSD. use a 75w synthetic oil and add a little bottle of LSD additive. Read the original post. The man has a 2wd. By the way, my 4wd original window sticker lists LSD as a seperate option with a seperate price. It was not listed as a part of the off-road package.
Surely, there is a way to visually inspect a rear diff and determine it is LSD besides looking for some lame-*** decal. What to the techs do? i-Zapp 05-16-2008, 09:56 AM bump (I'm interested in the surefire inspection method too) vando45 05-16-2008, 12:47 PM TRD package= LSD. you have lsd. and ALL limiteds came with LSD. use a 75w synthetic oil and add a little bottle of LSD additive.
WRONG! It was a separate option.
My sticker is right above the plug, and after 150K+ miles and 4 Michgan winters it's not faded at all. Some good sugestions, having the dealer run the VIN is probably the best. TUNDRA786 05-16-2008, 01:53 PM Have the dealer run the Vin. or go out in the mud. try and get one wheel stuck in some really slick mud so it spins freely and give it some gas. you will know if you have LSD.
You will hear the slipping tire having the breaks applied to it and the tire with traction will get more power and you will be free.
When doing this make sure you have some to pull you out incase you get stuck. Tundrav8yamaha 05-16-2008, 02:34 PM Have the dealer run the Vin. or go out in the mud. try and get one wheel stuck in some really slick mud so it spins freely and give it some gas. you will know if you have LSD.

I've had the dealership check mine out and they stated really not much on the Vin to really state or tell since Toyota hasn't broaden the search which i find odd. Limited slip will usually tell on the back of the diff. Go drive your truck in the rain and try to do a burn out if both back wheel spin you have Limited slip :bolt: Justin727 05-16-2008, 02:58 PM my TRD off road package DOES NOT have LSD. It was a safety option fpr Tundra's..
Get a powertrax locker! 00BlackTundra 05-16-2008, 04:15 PM Jack the rear of the truck up and spin the tires by hand. If it has an LSD both tires will turn in the same direction. If they spin in opposite directions then it is and open differential. BigGreenUGA 05-16-2008, 08:37 PM I have a feeling that washed out sticker looking area is the sticker that reads "lsd oil only." My sticker is almost worn off too. This would only be true if non-lsd trucks had a sticker that read "non-lsd oil" or something like that. There are actually 2 stickers on mine, one towards the middle and the other towards the drivers side (left). The middle is the lsd sticker.
Also, I'm pretty sure there was a post where you could look up your vin and see if it is lsd or not. If not on here, google it, I promise I wasn't on LSD when I saw it... TRD4LiFe80 05-17-2008, 11:20 AM Just burn out and look at the marks.:der: tundratoy04 05-17-2008, 09:10 PM I believe you can jack the rear end up and put it in drive (engine OFF) rotate one wheel by hand. If both tires spin in the same direction you have LSD if one goes forward and the other reverse you don't. This has worked for me several times on several makes. TundraBear 05-18-2008, 09:32 PM i like the jack up and spin tires method.
by the way. since i have a 2wd TRD package with LSD, does that make me a 3x3?:devil: socalenduro 06-13-2008, 11:43 AM I just called the service/parts dept and ran a vin. they were able to say definitively that the truck did NOT have LSD. The tech said it would specifically list LSD on the options list if the truck had it. This was a truck i was going to buy from them, so I trust the source. tommycod 07-23-2008, 01:05 PM WRONG! dealer ran my vin and said he 'thought ' it was not LSD. |
