What’s the best selling car in the world?
Some might be tempted to utter the name of a certain insectoid bolide that made U.S. landfall in the mid-1950s. Wrong answer. The right answer is….
….Corolla (http://www.toyota.com/corolla/).
It’s now in its 10th generation. Gen 1 was launched in 1966, during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson. It appeared as an unassuming little economy sedan powered by a small but sturdy 1,100 cc (67 ci) engine. Today, of course, motorcycles have larger engines (http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/products/modelspecs/484/0/specs.aspx) than this. But no motorcycle has sold as many units as Corolla has. The total number now exceeds 30 million cars world-wide, with seven million of that number having been sold here in the U.S.
By any definition, that amounts to an astounding success. And of course today’s Corolla [/URL] is a far cry from that early ancestor. It’s larger, more comfortable, and packed with safety and emissions equipment that couldn’t even have been imagined 42 years ago.
Yet thanks to the vision of its ongoing and ever-evolving team of designers and engineers, Corolla has remained true to its mission. I'm sure it's going to sale even better now with gas costs.

We just bought 2- 08 5-speed's this year, just to save money on gas.

Oh, and they're getting over 28/37 mpg listed on the sticker.

We are currently getting 30-32 city, and 39-42 hiway. Both cars running chevron plus unleaded, amsoil 5/30 full synthetic, & k&n filter.
Also 45+ is not unheard of either on the hiway if you drive 60-65. We get 40 at 75mph.

I agree, the Corolla is a great little car. Id probably be driving one, but I need a truck for hauling snowmobiles, ATVs and motorcycles; so a Corolla doesnt really fit into my lifestyle.

It is a nice car. The 10th generation is real nice. They've brought it up with the times and have given it a good look and feel. The new packages and options will allow an even broader range of people to fit into a Corolla.

This is very misleading. The Corolla line of cars has been around for many decades, and this more then anything may make it look like the best selling. But if you look at any given model year, the Civic has always sold better world wide. But the Civic line is not as old as the Corolla line.

Lets all put this in perspective, and if we do, then you'll see this is not a big deal at all.

Yea, we love our 2009 Corolla, and we think it is a great car, but our first choice and the better choice is the Honda Civic, but we just didn't want to pay $2,000 more for it, therefore we have a Corolla in our garage.

It is a nice car. The 10th generation is real nice. They've brought it up with the times and have given it a good look and feel. The new packages and options will allow an even broader range of people to fit into a Corolla.
