: 06 Tundra Noise After Brake Job

I have 06 Tundra Access Cab with little over 30k miles. I can't believe I needed brake job and new set of tires. I'm not sure if it is my driving that's cause this. But I did buy this truck used with about 10k miles and tires were already showing wear so it was most likely the previous owner. And it's possible that CV joint recall was partially blamed for the accelerated wear on the tires.

I recently had a brake job done at Longo Toyota (largest Toyota dealership in the US). It included replacing front brake pads and resurfacing the rotors. As I was driving off I heard metallic scraping noise as if something was dragging. I figured there were some metal particles on the rotors so eventually the noise would go away. As I was driving on the freeway I tested the brakes and I heard clunking noise twice. And this clunking was not the ABS kicking in because I was on the dry pavement and I did not slam on the brakes. Noise can not be heard with the window rolled up (Toyota cars are very quiet). But if I drive with the window down and drive under freeway overpass or drive near the wall on the driver's side, I hear constant hissing or metallic scraping noise from the front end. This noise was not there until the brakes were done. So I think Longo botched the brake job. I'm also noticing increase in brake pedal distance to slow the car down so it could potentially be safety concern.

Well, Longo has promised me to get my truck fixed. So I have appointment with them this weekend.

But can anyone of your experts shed some light on this issue? What's causing this?

In most cases the dealer will machine the rotors on the car, or at lest they should. Since when doing this the machine equipment must be bolted to the upright, my guess is they bent the rotor backing plate somehow and now it's scraping on the back of the rotor. This a easy fix, simply find where it is contacting the rotor and bend it back away.
I'm not sure, did you hear the clunk only once or is it still happening? A clunk from forward to rearward braking is normal. This could be a simple hardware issue or something much more serious, like they left the caliper bolts lose. This needs checked right away.

I noticed seriously deep groove on the front left rotor. That was not there so it likely happened after the brake job. I'm going in this weekend to get the brakes checked out.

As for the noise, it subsided a lot. Not sure if it was because I pumped the brake pedal 20 times in parked position or something wore out and its not rubbing anymore.

Loud clunk noise (more like grinding noise) happened twice right after getting the brake job done. It was loud enough to hear it inside the car with windows rolled up and A/C running. Occurred when slowing down as I prepared to merge onto another freeway.

Right now, I still hear metallic rubbing noise and pinging/ticking noise. Metallic rubbing noise is almost constant, non-stop while I'm driving. And this pinging noise seems to occur once every one full rotation of the tire.

Sigh...this sucks. But hopefully Longo will do their part to fix my car right this time.

Groove in the rotor, noise still there, you need to get this back in to the dealer ASAP. Sounds more serous the just a backing plate rubbing.:faint:
