just put my camper shell up for sale in the general classifieds...now im looking at tonneau covers..

anybody have an experience with the fiberglass ones? if so i would like some feedback on them, thanks!!

I've been happy with my A.R.E. althought they aren't cheap. I think they're between $1000 and 1200.

I saw an A.R.E. on a GMC a few months ago that looked SWEET. It had a built-in spoiler on the back that putting in brake lights is also an option.
I don't remember the exact model, but I checked with the local dealer and it was about $1200 without the brake light.
I would buy it... if only I had $1200 laying around. :sad:

yeahh. i think i want the fiberglass or hard plastic of some sort..i dont like the roll up leather ones. they seem weak..i cant see a load of snow sitting on them and not stretching them.

Fiberglass is pricey these days...

Hard plastic like the UnderCover is a great option. 100% weather-tight, very hard to damage, easy to remove etc. Also a bit cheaper than fiberglass.

Soft rollups have a come a long way and on a quality unit (Access, Truxedo, etc) they snow is no issue. I have customers who have witnessed 2-3 feet easily with no issues. They are made in ND and SD so they are built with snow in mind.

thanks for the info. the best thing for me would probably be the soft roll up then. i just think on the highway, hard plastic would be better for aerodynamics cause the soft rolls up would get pushed down where there's not a support?

A.R.E are great. I'm willing to shell out $1200 for that... Hopefully someone generous would give me one for Christmas. :wink:

Not really. The beauty of the better soft rollups is that you can easily adjust the tension on the vinyl. If you keep it pretty snug you won't see any push down between the supports or any ripple in the wind.

Plus, you can get into a good Access or Truxedo for around $360 shipped so they are going to save you a ton.

what about the 3 or 4 fold hard covers?are they pretty much water tight?

The Fold-A-Cover units are decent covers. I wouldn't say water-tight. Water resistant is more accurate. They also have a tendency to freeze up in cold weather.

I hear the Extang Solid Fold isn't bad.... Not real familiar with but we have sold a few and they are a bit cheaper at like $640 shipped...

Stay away from BAKFlip IMO... you won't be happy long run...

$700 is a bit high. $650 to $680 is more typical. Sometimes, you can even find them for less.....like $639 in Fort Worth :eyebrows:
