| reader094 02-23-2009, 01:43 PM 97 Tacoma 135k started popping out of first gear at stop lights, once in a while, so I started holding the shifter in place. It's been a while, I hold it in all the time, but, now it seems to be worse, i.e., pops out more often, only first gear. Appreciate any comment, like, can this be fixed by me. lelandstanford 02-25-2009, 08:34 AM Check the gear oil first. d-lo 02-25-2009, 08:50 AM sounds like it could be a synchronizer or collar (both internal transmission parts) wearing out, in which case the transmission would need to be dropped and opened up to fix it. gear oil is a good first check. Cobb 02-28-2009, 01:24 PM Id check the linkage and bushings. Second , change the oil. Soemtimes internal problems can be lessen or fixed with a fluid change. I had a benz with 475 thousand that popped out of 4th. New bushings fixed that problem. | |
