URD is using advanced design techniques including LASER scanning to digitize the engine bay and engine components. We are also completely designing the new systems in CAD before the first part is made.

This is cutting development costs, speeds development time and should yield the greatest number of common system components possible.
Gadget Marauder 02-24-2009, 07:39 PM ooooooooo....nice, laser scanner on a FARO arm. We didn't even have stuff like that when I was working at Edelbrock developing turbo kits. Had to mock stuff up inside the engine bay and use rulers, protractors, and such....LOL. Gadget@URD 02-24-2009, 07:49 PM I can't wait to get the first round of parts out of the rapid prototyping 3D printer. They are supposed to be strong enough to run on the vehicle indefinitely.
Gadget Marauder 02-24-2009, 08:25 PM Nice! What kind of rapid prototype is it? We once had a honda intake manifold prototype printed on one that infused aluminum particles and we bolted it right up to the engine and ran it on the chassis dyno.
Some of that stuff is awesome. ;)
i'd like to supercharge my tundra someday.....but its not the in budget now.... Gadget@URD 02-24-2009, 08:31 PM I do not know exactly what the material is, but it is a strong nylon stuff.
This same material was used to print a manifold for a turbocharged aircraft engine and it has been in flight tests for a couple of years. That is some sturdy stuff.
Gadget Mr.Benjamin 02-25-2009, 10:43 AM A kit for the 2000-2002 4.7L tundra would be neat :D
Keep up the good work and Ill be keeping an eye out on your newest developments :thumb: Gadget@URD 02-25-2009, 10:55 AM We will have one soon.
I just finished up on system, got three more in the fire right now. They should be done in a few weeks, then all the different 4.7L applications will be done.

Very cool stuff. I can see a scanner in my future. (The printer will have to wait though $$$) Crazy Ivan 03-14-2009, 08:31 AM some nice printers! jbtoy 03-14-2009, 11:29 AM A kit for the 2000-2002 4.7L tundra would be neat :D

Ditto!!!!!!! I will even be the beta test to prove it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If it works and performs well, they will have a poster child for marketing RIjon 03-14-2009, 02:03 PM Ditto!!!!!!! I will even be the beta test to prove it out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hell ya man, your truck would be the perfect candidate for that. It's nice as hell. :thumb::thumb: jbtoy 03-14-2009, 05:53 PM Hell ya man, your truck would be the perfect candidate for that. It's nice as hell. :thumb::thumb:
Thanks guy! Hell, this would even motivate me to finish the rest of the engine detailing plans I have on the table. Need to contact them direct and see if
they can give some updates. |
