Hi Folks,

I tried this post under 1stGen Tundra section with no response...pretty busy forum.

I guess I've recently joined the club for serpintine belt chirping noises!!

I have a 2001 Tundra with the 4.7, with 104,000 miles on it. It has run flawless. At 89,000, had the the timing belt, water pump replaced but I don't think the tensioner was changed.

This past week, the chirping from the serpintine belt/tensioner/clutch fan had started. It only does it on a cold engine and at idle speed. It doesn't last long and usually subsides in 10-15 miles. I do hear it a little chirping when the engine upshifts through the gears when the RPMs are around 2500 - 3000 but it quickly goes away when in the next gear (slower RPM) or in overdrive.

I'm having a little trouble exactly locating the source, it is in the tensioner/clutch fan vicinity. I see where switching to the gaterback belt has worked for some, but if it's a tensioner problem, I haven't fixed it with the belt replacement.

In one thread, it describes the fix from a TSB that involves a new tensioner and newly designed air compressor monting bracket...$800 later some still have the problem.

Given my description and the RPMs it occurs, what do you think is the culprit?

Thanks in advance.

Kevin

I couldn't determine if you'd changed the belt yet to a Gatorback and if you haven't I certainly would do that first as the cheapest try. If that's not effective then just replace the tensioner pulley assembly without the other stuff

LGL002 and apurazzo,

Thanks...I have not installed the Gatorback belt. I believe it's part # 4060905 for about $42. I'll try and drop ya a line.

Kevin.

I had a similar problem and it wasn't the belt. It was the idler pulley. Replaced the idler pulley and the problem went away.

Most of the time it is the belt and we have started to use the GATES belt not the Toyota one and have had good success.
