My timing chain broke while driving down the freeway. How can I tell what damage was done? Do I have to tare the hole motor down. What type of damage am I looking at?

valve damage.
check the valve adjustment. bent valves have very large gaps.
you will have to remove the head and timing cover.

What if I don't have any large gaps. Should I then install a new chain and see what I have or should I just pull the head?:ts:

hummmmm "no large gaps" means???? if you feel
or know that the clearances were pretty much "on"
before the chain broke, then check them and you
will know. the higher your rpm's when it lets go, the
more valves you will bend. so if you assume you didn't
bend all of the valves, then when you check them, you
will see: 10, 10, 18, 10 for example. then i would say
you have one bent. i also use a leak down test and
a scope to look at the valves and pistons for "tap" marks.
