Have you guys seen what the cadilac's Northstar 32 valve varaible valve timing engines can do?? How about 320 hp.

When will Toyota Engineers be incorporating the vvt to the Tundra. Heck....what about a 5.4 l vvt producing 350 hp. It seems like all the newer high end cars are finding new ways to produce BIG hp.

I want, I want.

The 4.3L VVT-i 32-valve all-aluminum V8 in the Lexus GS430 makes 300 hp @ 5,600 rpm, 325 lb-ft @ 3,400 rpm torque... extrapolate that out to 5.4L and it's more than 350hp!

I'm most impressed with the CL55 AMG -- AMG-built supercharged 5.5L 24-valve V-8 engine 493 hp @ 6,100 rpm, torque 516 lb-ft @ 2,750 - 4,000 rpm. Of course that car has a base price of $115,320(!) An obscene price for an obscenely powerful engine.

Still, the Tundra is the only truck to get an advanced 32-valve V8 (at least until the Titan comes out) that also powers a flagship $60k SUV... Everyone else is pawning off ancient pushrod motors or "swiss-army-knife" "modular" motors that are marginal even in the cars. The DC "Hemi" isn't a bad motor, but it's still a 16-valve pushrod motor with 16 spark plugs.

These new caddies are doin the 0-60 in 5.9 sec, and the 1/4 mi. in 14.3 sheesh...........

I guess what I'm getting at here is... the Tundra has a 4.7 L 32valve engine. If the V V T makes that much difference when will we see it in a Tundra. Then....we want to see a supercharged
V V T.

Since we usually don't wind out our motors like in a car,I'm doubtful Toyota would plan on adding variable valve timing on the V8 Tundras (or 4Runners and Landcruisers). So far all the variable valve timing V8s mentioned in this thread are found in cars.

There will be an all-aluminum 5 liter VVTi V8 in a few years, they'll be found in Lexus' car (not SUV) line. I'll be getting more info in August when the dealership sends me out for a training course. You heard it first here ;)

I would think they could manipulate it to work at a lower RPM. Have it set up to give some nice low end torque but then start to change and give a decent amount of power up top too. Maybe that isn't feasable, but it seems like it could work.

While we’re dreaming (which I very much enjoy), let’s think about using one of the new 5-speed autos from the 4Runner (or maybe 6-speed, by the time our dreams come true). Couple that with a shorter rear-end and we’d have some improved off-the-line movement, along with relaxed high speed cruising.

BTW, the Titan is getting a 5-speed auto, so I hope that motivates Toyota to package the Tundra the same way, if and when a new motor shows up.

It works for GM in their Trailblazer and Envoy 6 cylinder SUV's. Lots of torque and good gas mileage too. The funny thing is, the engine looks more like a Toyota than a GM product!
