I finally got around to wiring my aftermarket seat heaters and I'm hoping I can get a few opinions.

They're each supposed to be on a 15 amp fuse and the kit came with inline 15 amp fuses to wire in. I put the switches in the factory locations and am drawing power from the lighter for one and the 12V accessory outlet for the other. The lighter, not being on switched power, isn't the best place to grab power though, if I forget to shut the heater off it won't go off with the ignition.

Can I replace the original 15 amp fuse for the 12V outlet with a 30 amp, wire both heaters to that circuit with the 15 amp inlines for each? That puts both on a switched circuit, puts a 15 amp fuse on each, and still leaves me the lighter for call phone charger, etc.

I think it makes sense and I think it's ok to do it this way but I'd feel better if somebody could back it up for me.

Well maybe I can help someone in the future. I wound up calling Rostra today and asked what the current draw was on their heaters. They told me at full power they pull about 4 amps each so I could easily wire both to one 15 amp circuit. I put them both on the 12v acc outlet and all is well.

Which aftermarket heater did you use? One of the first things I do with a new truck is to install a $5 dollar fuse block (Painless wiring) from Jegs. That gives me 5 slots to hook up may radios etc. I run power direct from the battery to it.

I too ran both my front seat heaters off one of the 12V cig outlets, and up the fuse to a 20, no problems even when i use the outlet in conjunction with the heaters.. Best mod ever!!!

I bought the Rostra WET heaters. With careful drilling the round switches just fit into the width of the factory blanks and the seats heat up fast.

Did you install the heaters yourself? How many hog rings needed? how long did it take?

As best I remember is was around 18-20 hog rings per seat. I put Katzkin leather in and the seat heaters, total working time was around 8 hours for front and back.

Did you put heaters in your back seat??? or when you say back you mean the lumbar portion of the front seat??? if you did put a set in the back where did you place the switches for those units???

I only heated the front seats, Pete. I read a lot of positive comments on the forum about the Rostra heaters and they do work great. I can't keep them on the high setting for very long because it gets too hot. Once everything is nice and warm turning it down on low is perfect and the pads were long enough to cover a lot of seat cushion and seat back.

Exactly what I did with mine. I would have prefered to install with factory switches, but at $65 each...what I have is just fine. One of the best mods I've done.
