: What does it take to add remote start? funkytechmonkey 11-10-2009, 07:32 PM I want to add remote start to my truck but I would like to keep the factory alarm and keyless entry. I do not want one of those gay remotes that come with an aftermarket alarm. Anyone able to install an OEM remote start and keep the keys? Stroup 11-12-2009, 07:49 PM I Know You Can, Because I Have Seen One Actually A Few Weeks Ago When Me And Some Friends Went To Out To Lunch. We Heard A Truck Start, Looked Over, And Saw A Guy Walking To His Car. I Asked Him Where He Got It, And His Reply Was "My Friend And I Hooked It Up, He Owns An Auto Shop"
So Its Possible, But Not Sure Where To Get Them. Craigmier 11-12-2009, 11:46 PM I know the dealer will install remote start that uses the factory key fob for keyless entry for about 300 bucks. However if you can afford it, you should consider the Clifford remote start/alarms. The alarm is the best in the biz, 100000000 times better than the stock toyota one which might as well not be installed cuz its **** worthless. You can open/close windows with fob, lcd on fob shows what window or door was broken into, if hood is popped, if trunk is popped, can read temp in the cab and turn on AC o heat, will alarm if the truck is jacked up in the situation somebody is going to steal your wheels or tow your truck or put on a flatbed. They even offer an added Pain siren that u install in your dash hidden and its so damn loud no theif could bare the noise while they try to hotwire or steal anything, it literally hurts your ears bad. Also there is a backup batter that comes with alarm so that even if theif cuts your battery line, alarm keeps alarming and you are notified on your key fob. Does that sound "gay" to you? Sorry but you sounded like a dumb hick. "DONT WANT NON OF DEM GAY KEYCHAINS" LOL It is a really nice remote start/alarm if you have the money. they are 400 shipped, 600 installed. Stroup 11-19-2009, 09:23 PM I went to autozone to look at random stuff because i was bored last night, and believe it or not, i saw they had a remote starter kit for 100 bucks. It was from "Bulldog" i think, I'll purchase it next thursday and install it (I get paid then) and let you know if its good or not tundrunk 11-20-2009, 12:52 AM My old boss had that Clifford system. It offered lots of nice features. I like the way the remote acts like a pager and tells you what exactly is going on. Sometimes you aren't where you can hear your alarm, like at the movies, in those times that feature alone is worth every penny. The auto start, auto ac control, and window control make your truck so enjoyable, ladies love it too. "which car is yours?"(auto start/windows down) "The one right there." Do you already have the factory alarm system?
Does the autozone kit require another keyfob? Stroup 11-25-2009, 05:48 PM Do you already have the factory alarm system?

I dont even have an alarm -.-
I have a panic button LOL, but the alarm doesn't work, so I dont think its even there, I havent bothered to look either.
I purchased the remote starter tonight, its just a simple keychain thing with a "start" and "stop" button. I didnt want the one with an alarm, since I dont need it anyways. I will install it Friday, cause Im busy with ThanksGiving tomorrow.
And Im not sure what a "keyfob" is .. so i couldnt answer that question =/ tundrunk 11-27-2009, 07:38 PM Whats up stroup, the fob is the remote. I don't know why they call it that. Does your truck have a blinky light on the dash? If it does you have the alarm. I saw a video and you have keyless entry, I think you can do the free alarm mod but it might be 2003 and older. There is a clip you pull off behind the driver side kick panel, yank it and presto alarmo. If you have the panic button I think you have the alarm. 73mach1429 11-28-2009, 07:06 PM The reason that remote starts are installed with aftermarket remotes is 2 fold. One, it is easier than setting the R/S to use the factory remote. Two, if you do set it up to work with the factory remote, you only will be able to start the car from the same range that you can unlock the doors from. Most people want the added range that comes with the remote start fob. Stroup 12-01-2009, 08:05 PM Whats up stroup, the fob is the remote. I don't know why they call it that. Yeah, I do have keyless entry, but IDK why no alarm. And back to the subject .. if you buy a remote starter kit, I highly recommenced you take it to a car stereo, or car alarm place. Like a local place, because its actually hard as hell to install and I gave up. I'll have to take it in to get it done. | |
