: New HIDs Stroup 12-01-2009, 08:18 PM I now have 12k HIDs from a company called O-NEX
Easy to install, easier then I thought it would be, it really took less then 2 minutes only because I couldnt find a place to mount the relay, but finally just said to my friend "screw it, its going on my battery box."
Attached is two pictures. I wish you could see them IRL, because pictures just dont have the same effect, like it doesnt like it does IRL.
Now, I need help with the fogs. im getting them installed next paycheck, and from my last poll, am leaning towards 6 or 8K. would they look good with purple/pink lights, or should I make the fogs the same as my headlights ?
Traffic tickets do not matter in this case for me. I saw an officer parked near a stop sign, and decided to ask him if they pull people over for colored lights. His reply was litterally "*Laughs a lil* No, unless we got a call about them, or they run a red, then we'll add that to the ticket."
Its been about a month since I've had these lights, and surprisingly, no tickets or questions. powerhause 12-01-2009, 10:12 PM Wow that's purple! How is the overall "lighting" with those lights? I heard the higher the kelvin you go the less overall light output they produce. I do see a lot of people match the fogs with the headlights, I would be worried about purple overkill though. Barney_Fife 12-02-2009, 12:05 AM not sure why anyone would want purple lights but to each his own....oh your from cali that 'splains it hahaha. anyway, maybe if u get a lower temp on the fog lights u ca actually have some light output u can use? thats my suggestion....other than not going with 12k but u already did so thats kinda a mute point now. tundrunk 12-02-2009, 10:40 AM Hey there patna'! I'm from Cali, en I don't preciate dem purple headlights mekin us look like that there tinkywinky fella! When I see purple lights I go shootin ya hear?
Just messing with you stroup. Glad you're happy with them, I know you've been thinking of this for a while. I would go higher on the fogs, doubt you can see 8k over 12k.
Don't ask how I know tinkywinky either! Stroup 12-02-2009, 03:16 PM Haha well **** people ! Powerhause, yes they are HELLA purple and they actually produce good light quality. I know what you mean though, because I've heard of people saying that the blue and purple make it harder to see the road, but it really doesnt. But DCwhite up a few posts made me think about the overdoing purple. I think 6k would be good. My friend has 8k in his little TC, and its more blueish then people say o.O
Tundrunk, I know you joke with me, you have been since I started here xD
I'll post some pictures from daytime, though it wont look as purple because my phones camera sucks. Never get a G1 from TMobile BTW, bad for pictures. Stroup 12-13-2009, 12:30 PM Ok, so I hadnt noticed until last night ... brights no longer work. Im not sure why, I havent really taken a moment to take a look as to what the problem might be, but does anyone else with HIDs know why brights turn off the headlights ? FUNGUS 12-13-2009, 02:32 PM because it activates another filament in the halogen bulbs. Since you no longer have halogen bulbs, it is deactivating the low beam "filament".... this is usually a problem with rebased HiD kits. Using one reflector for high and low then switching to HiD without any other mods will cause that....so you are out of luck, unless you retrofit a bixenon projector kit into that..... then youll really be able to see.... Stroup 12-14-2009, 04:58 PM Yeah, I knew retrofitting it would work, because one of my friends did it to his scion. But he also said it was HELLA expensive, however I would want to do what he did; he put pink in the low beams like I did, but then he has a dark blue in the high beams, so it switches colors when ever he wants. JMSinMD 12-14-2009, 05:38 PM Great job on ricing out a Tundra :td: Looks HELLA stupid. Barney_Fife 12-14-2009, 05:54 PM Great job on ricing out a Tundra :td: Looks HELLA stupid.
im still trying to figure out the point in "pink" lights or purple or even other colors...HIDs are nice when they are the correct color but none of the gay colors.... and i agree....HELLA stupid.... FUNGUS 12-15-2009, 01:06 PM Hey now. I am sure pink is good... With 12k you might as well see in ultraviolet. It changes color because they stuck a ghetto halogen bulb to the hid bulb. Still blinds me and still looks ghey IMHO. Stroup 12-16-2009, 02:37 PM Easy on the insults, I just started with mods. I know Im not a pro like most of you, and I dont have money up the *** to buy everything or mod everything at once, so chill. I know people think pink is stupid, and looks gay, but that your opinion so keep it to yourself. All I was doing was showing pictures to show other people what it looks like. I wasnt asking for you to cry to me about ricing a tundra, because honestly, its not riced. I know riced cars when I see them. FUNGUS 12-16-2009, 02:48 PM I know riced cars when I see them.
Hehe... so do we.... Look dude, we know you're young and just trying to help you out. You should have saved your pennies for a proper retrofit if you really want HiD's, instead of wasting it on pink lights. Put it this way.... its not as bad as the 1st gen tundra I saw yesterday going through Bellvue with actual christmas lights covering the entire outside......You took it upon yourself to post pictures, thus inviting opinions.... you had to know that some, if not most, would disagree with pink lighting. black57 12-17-2009, 03:21 PM Dont worry about the haters bro, do what you wana do. At least it will attract more attention than your stock lights lol. Think it looks good Craigmier 12-18-2009, 12:45 AM yellow fogs FTW. vincas2005 12-24-2009, 09:15 AM Aj karamba another rice tundra. Now you have full rights to hang out with los amigos from Walmart tuning Civic's club :biggrin1: Marauder 01-04-2010, 10:16 AM IMO, you are better off with a quality set of halogen bulbs than putting an HID 'kit' in your headlights.
With most HID bulb kits, you lose your high beams, unless you get one that has a seperate high beam bulb, or a sheild that changes positions.
Personally, I did the retrofit way. I didn't want to just install bulbs and get the light scatter affects that you get from putting a HID bulb in your OEM housings. The housings are not meant for that type of bulb, so light goes where it shouldn't go, mostly into peoples eyes.
I have acura TL HID projectors in my truck, just installed them this past weekend. Works great! Of course it cost me about $1000, but there are cheaper ways to go to do a retrofit. Don't worry about it dude. You'll get a lot of old timers here who think anything that is excessive is dumb and wrong. A lot of them hate non-retro HID's also, but that's their opinion. Don't take it personal. These guys forget that money doesn't grow on trees and "kids" our age don't always have $1K to drop on head lights.
Although I personally am not a fan of 12K or 14K HIDs, I think they look good. All I can say is make sure you head in one direction with your truck and you stay in that direction. Just don't lift it 3 inches and put 24's on it or some crap. LOL.
My truck has 55w 10K that blinds most of these old guys. However, I have noticed that while on the freeway people get out of my way. It's like having police sirens going off, LOL. Do I care about their opinion? Not really. If they don't like it, move out of my way. It's as simple as that.
My advice to you is; ignore the negative comments and do what makes you happy. Because in the end, your opinion is the only one that matters. You'll get a lot of negative opinions as well as positive ones here. It's up to you to sort through them and see which have validity and which are just haters. You're right.. seeing is really over rated. Not to mention the destruction of night vision....us old timers are a real pain arent we? Riced out... yes... super blinding.... yes....look like crap... yes.... save your pennies and do it right... you can afford a truck but cant seem to save the money to do a headlight mod correctly? Lame excuse. So your solution is to blind everyone else because you cant afford to do it correctly? You're still dropping close to a hundred bucks on a rebased kit anyways, so screw everyone else right?
Youre right, only your opinion matters... as my opinion matters to me, I reserve the right to toss you the finger and flash you with my high beams whenever I feel necessary... I do it on a daily basis to every one of these glaring rebased HiD kits... what makes your situation worse is that you know you are blinding everyone else.... and your response is... who cares? Dont get mad at us giving you crap with an attitude like that.....chances you wont get very far in life anyways.... You're right.. seeing is really over rated. Did he ask for your opinion on how the light output is? Did he complain about having trouble seeing? Did he ask if you guys would get those HIDs? The answer is no to all of those. You can say they look like crap all you want, it's not going to matter to him. That's your opinion and I was simply stating that he shouldn't take them to heart.
I could say your snowmobile is stupid and a waste of money. Does it bother you? Does it make you want to get rid of it? Probably not. The whole point is, he didn't ask for negative opinions on it. He simply posted information informing others on how it would look. That's all. But you guys have to chime in and throw in your opinion with such a negative tone.

That's very mature. And look how much older you are than I am. Go ahead and toss me the finger and throw on your high beams. 9 out of 10 times the cop would pull you over for road rage instead of pulling me over for my lights. Besides that, your high beams wouldn't even slightly alter my driving. My windows are too dark to have them affect me. So go ahead and try to rage, I'll be ahead of you laughing preparing to slam on my brakes.
Oh! And I didn't get mad at all. I was simply stating that he shouldn't take it to heart and worry about what you guys say. I'm far from mad. I'm actually laughing that I got your panties in a bunch. As for getting far in life, HAHA! You don't know me and you have no place to judge. I do quite well for my age and your attempt to try and attack me was rather poor.
Also, you do know how to use a period in a sentence right? You use a single period, not three. Maybe you should spend less time yelling on the internet and more time working on your typing skills. It's just a thought. FUNGUS 01-13-2010, 01:32 PM Hey... P.S. if you cant tell...............I'm even throwing the bird in my picture.... look closely.... its there... jjjackies 01-13-2010, 02:18 PM i like your lights but might be a little to bright for oncoming traffic at least from pics would like to retrofit my 00 in future put for now using ipf bulbs for headlights and piaas in foglights :becky: tundrunk 02-03-2010, 12:57 AM I agree with black 57, whatever you want to do to your truck is fine. It is after all, YOUR TRUCK so the only one it has to please is you. You guys could be a little cooler to him. Ricer? I'm not sure about that. Colored lights don't look like rice to me, guess it depends where you're from. I think of gawdy body kits, coffee can mufflers, ridiculous spoilers and chopped springs when I hear ricer. Not Tundra's with colored lights, would it be a ricer if it were a silverado with purple lights?
Not stirring it up here, just think you guys could be nicer to the kid, at least he's doing something. To me, if he's getting the mods on, power to him. It takes time to get the knowledge. I am sure when all of you were 18 you did a mod or two that got lots of heads shaking.:nono: I know I did, I had over $2k of stereo in a $500 car, big deal.
We call it modding these days, before it was called customizing, isn't the root word customer? That is who does the customizing and that is who it is to please.:tu:
Oh yeah, rock on NOKZ, saw your truck at the show last week, looks good. Barney_Fife 02-03-2010, 01:34 AM i think anything with purple lights can be called rice. or ghey. or crap. or whatever. normal colored (as in oem colored) HIDs are fine...its when u start bluing and purpling up the world that it gets irritating and just plain weird. tundrunk 02-03-2010, 01:38 PM I understand that, everyone is entitled to opinion. BMWs come with blue lights, nobody seems to call them rice. I just think we could be a little less negative about it. Nothing cool about picking on a youngster. I get annoyed by bright lights too, but I wouldn't go around on a forum calling them gay.(or ghey) pazorell69 02-05-2010, 02:14 AM For the luv of god!!!!!
People are mean here!
Just focus in here !
I'm 26 and I hate hid kits !!!! ThEy blind me even if I close my eyes !!!
For sure I like some rice sh1t lol ! Right old rock?
But you can still achive your colors with a full hid retrofit, see better and most important not blinding the old rocks !
If you need some info in what to get just ask you can do a retro with $200 if you want to save $$ get the pArts from a junk yard out there in Cali !
Tl, fx, ls projectors sells for Less than 80 bugs at junk yards those are the same people pay in other places for 1ks
ballast $15
You just need the projectors and ballast them you get the bulbs with the color you want, a harness can be done for less than $10 autozone !! BMWs come with HID lights...not blue. OEM HIDs are around the 5000k color range. not 8k or 12k or worse like purple etc. so yea, rice is the higher colors just for color and no extra output.
we have a thread already in tundra forum about the HID kits in reflectors, if aimed correctly they are fine. i get flashed less now than i did stock. (aimed them mainly). we have posted pics of the cutoff etc. the light will just reflect more...it doesnt magically have all this extra light spilling out of the reflector and flying through the air like a water hose would if u stuck ur finger over the end. so people who talk about extra glare, light scatter etc, its all in the aiming. nuf said. but yea, anything bluer than OEM HID color is gonna get some negative commetns. same if people go the other way and put yellow in their low beams. Eduardosantacruz 02-14-2010, 05:10 PM Real, mature guys.
Anyways, i was wondering if these kits have caused damage to your reflectors?
Um, i ordered a kit like yours to Plug and Play some HID's
They're not purple though, i got them for output, so i got 6000Ks, i have to admit though, purple is pretty unique and people will turn their heads when they see you. Don't pay attention to any haters. FUNGUS 02-18-2010, 07:03 PM Maturity is over rated. Relax, its the internet. Grow some thicker skin. If you get all upset because someone doesnt like your mod its pretty sad..... Rant off..... Stroup 02-18-2010, 09:41 PM NoKz .. thank you for backing me up haha. Not many people do that these days. However everyone is right, the light output sucks, they blind other people, and are "ghey."
I dont care about light output, I live in a city, not the outbacks. These street lights that give light output.
I know they blind people, but by the time you see me, I'm already passing you, so you're blinded for like .. what .. 3 seconds max ?
"Ghey" ... this word, yeah, get off world of warcraft, and learn to spell. pazorell69 02-19-2010, 01:19 PM Haha! I know what u did!
ok try with this one.......
1. if you install the body kit in your tundra you gonna be all set !

:tu: Stroup 02-20-2010, 02:16 PM You're mature FUNGUS 02-20-2010, 07:59 PM With comments like " I know they blind people, I dont care" doesnt lend themselves to sympathy. At least from me. Keep rocking the dim pink lights... who knows maybe they'll get ya a date.... Stroup 02-21-2010, 08:52 PM They have actually, my girlfriend likes them =) pazorell69 02-21-2010, 09:50 PM I bet your Girl will like these projectors better ;) .... When I get them done!! :)
http://i1007.photobucket.com/albums/af200/pazorell69/3462880d.jpg vincas2005 02-27-2010, 07:50 PM Looks good, wish the 1st gen had two section headlights. Quad setup on 1st gen will require extensive modding due to small size housing :( | |
