I need to pull close to 4000lbs with my 1996 4x4 3.4l Tacoma. I’m first re-locating the oil filter so I can add a cooler and use a dual cooler to add the trans also. As it is now, stock, I’m afraid I’ll kill the motor and trans pulling this weight. To add a little power, I’m looking to remove the clutch fan and install a dual 12” electric fan. Hopefully that will add a few HP. I’ve opened up the air box by cutting a 9” hole to add some air intake.

Other than adding dual exhaust, would adding a intercooler (blower I guess you would call it), would this add enough HP and not stress out the motor pulling 4K lbs? I hear the 4.0 has enough HP to pull this weight, but I don’t know if I’m pushing the limit on this 3.4L? What would you guys suggest?

Thanks, Chris – Macon Ga.
