Just occurred to me that I don't know if the factory hitch on our 2005 Sequoia is a Class III or a Class IV... anyone know?
Cheers,
John.

It's a Class III receiver.
edit: Just ran my vin with a Toyota master tech and it came back as a class IV with the tow package. However, it is rated at 6250 tow capacity which is just over the highest class III rating of 5000.

I've done some thinking about this, actually. My 2005 4x4 Limited has a tow capacity of 6200 lbs and a max tongue weight of 620 lbs. That isn't possible with a Class III, which is limited to 5000 / 500 lbs. Ergo, Class IV.

Here's an old post with some very good info: http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/towing/6211-hitch-questions-info-help-3/#post85149
Regardless of what's in your manual, the best place to get real information on your exact receiver is on the receiver itself. Check that and determine your receiver's capacity. I think hitch ratings aren't very applicable with our trucks considering they're in the middle of 3 & 4 and has a 2" receiver.

TA,
Thanks for the tips and the link. I will take a closer look at the receiver when it warms up a little.
