I have 40,000 on my 07 Tacoma now and since my warranty is out , would like to use an "Express Oil Change" dealer much closer to my home than my Toyota dealer.

While he features Havoline oil, he has a selection of oil to choose from but my concern is the oil filter itself. When i bought the truck, the salesman told me I could change the oil myself but Toyota required a Toyota brand oil filter be used. He said the Toyota oil filter has a special check valve inside the filter to keep the oil from draining after the engine has cut off.

Is that correct? Should I buy a Toyota filter even if I go to the express service place? Thanks for your advice.

Toyota does not require their filter be used. It is recommended, but any quality aftermarket will work. If Toyota required it they would have to provide it.

Check everything carefully after they service your truck... some of those places are known for shoddy work.

... ^^^ ... :tu: ..... Also, there can be a big difference in the quality of the oil filters at the "quick lube places" too.

You and your vehicle are at the mercy of the kid who does it too. ....
