I had some vibration and noise coming from the front of my '02 Serquoia which has 106,000 miles on it. I just brought it into the dealer and their diagnosis was "noise form transfer case, vehicle slips in and out of 4WD, component broken inside transfer". They told me that it was not worth repairing, but quoted me $4,000 to try to fix. But also said that they could not guarantee it. They recommend that I just drive it until it dies. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Try here, and install yourself or have local mechanic do it for you. Not a lot of labor involved. Before you do anything - get a second opinion.

$4000 to replace a transfer case?? That is crazy!! They told you to drive it till it dies?? What is the point of having 4WD if it doesn't work....that dealer is wacked! I agree with Jim Ford....and have a second opinion for sure. Have the fluid drained and checked for debris. If it's bad, pick up a used one from a local wrecking yard and have a trustworthy 4WD shop install it for you.
