: Tweeters? Recommendations based on experience lopezi 10-02-2003, 12:38 PM Hi all,
I did a search on the site in regards to tweeters to get a feel for what everyone was using. I repeatedly saw MB Quart and Infinity. Any one else use any others? What about silk soft dome vs. titanium/aluminum/neodynium? I want to remove some of the off axis harshness that occasionally occurs, I've heard/read that silk soft domes are better for that. Any ideas?
Thanks, Tundra Kid 10-02-2003, 08:39 PM MB Quartz / Focal Utopia and Boston Neo5T tweeters are the best. Period. Verndog 10-02-2003, 08:51 PM Hi all,

Had bostons in my taco, and now put infinity into my tundra. I'd go with infinity...they really are a great mod...even with stock stereo.

just so many different brands out there with good tweeters... JnEsPappa 10-03-2003, 09:10 AM You might want to try moving them up to the A-Pillar too. I am glad I moved mine.
BTW, I am currently still using the Infinity neodymium tweets on the A-pillar but will be replacing them with Vifa 1" soft domes, hopefully this weekend.
Edit: I have the Infinity crossover set for -3dB on the tweeters and they are still fairly overpowering for my taste. ripshion 10-04-2003, 09:33 PM Hi all,

I just installed some CDT Audio CL61's, included are 1 inch silk tweeters. I had to modifiy the OEM tweeter hole in the door panel to make them fit properly. They sound awesome! Some say that titanium tweeters may sound to "Bright" or "Harsh". Just a matter of what kind of music you listen to. Good luck! Agent WD-40 10-05-2003, 03:21 AM I just installed some CDT Audio CL61's, included are 1 inch silk tweeters. How did the woofer of those speakers fit in the door? Did it take a lot of modifying? e_j_m 10-05-2003, 06:34 AM I've used Infiinty tweeters for a long time (over 10 years) in all my cars. I just like the way they do high-range.
I also agree with hovisimo's implication that moving the tweeters, for example, to the A-pillar will inject the sound right in your ear, and be overpowering unless you're very careful.
If you are inclined to get a full headrest speaker system, then it's OK, but putting one frequency range of speakers right near your ear while leaving the others on the floor, under the rear seat, etc, etc, is going to skew the sound considerably, and compensating for that might be tough. ripshion 10-05-2003, 09:24 AM How did the woofer of those speakers fit in the door? First off, I did the "Window Track" mod(10 washers, bottom). Then used XTC foam baffles and set the speakers in them, then mounted to the OEM plastic baffles. The foam baffles itself also gave back alittle mounting depth. However, I was only able to use (2) screws to hold the speakers onto the OEM plastic baffle(top and bottom). With just the (2) screws holding the speakers in they are pretty snug and aren't going anywhere(foam baffle is compressed). I fired them up the other day and they sound very nice. I think the foam baffle that I added really brings out the bass, well worth it. :tu: JnEsPappa 10-05-2003, 05:58 PM do you think that could be because their location, because you can hear them better?
I had them in the doors at first (in the OEM location) and the results were pretty much the same as far as intensity. When I moved them to the A-pillar, it really only improved the soundstage (higher of course).
Audio is very much a matter of opinion. I would definitely suggest a trip down to Best Buy or Circuit city to listen to your top choices.
BTW, yesterday I finally put in the Vifa tweeters and they aren't so harsh, they're just HUGE. I'm going to have to build some TundraSoul style pods for them after I get them aimed properly. JeffD 10-06-2003, 07:34 AM I have had both MB quart competition 3 way seperates, and now Infinity perfect 6.5 seperates in my tundra. They are both a little too bright for me. The high frequency response is great on both of them, but they are too bright in the 6-8k range for my tastes. I have not had time to tweak crossover settings. I think the component quality of the MB quart crossovers were better, but the infinity speakers seem to hold up better (so far) | |
