Yes, I've read all the old posts about it. I am assuming at this point the only reason there wasn't a recall is that it wasn't narrowed down to a specific model or year. My '06 Tundra V6 has "piston slap" that is loud and noticeable in gears 1 - 4. It doesn't make a bit of difference if the vehicle is warmed up or not. It is, however, more noticeable at > 2K miles since last oil change.
The fact is that this is a defect. The correction is an engine rebuild. Each time the "piston slap" occurs, bad things happen internally. Yes they are miniscule, but over time, they add up and affect long term engine life. You can dice it a dozen different ways (which is what I've seen done), but either way, it is a factory defect.
My question is- how many have thought into this enough to bring it to their dealer's attention? And what is the typical response? I am not very happy that my engine has 32K, has had nothing but great maintenance/syn oil and sounds like a cummins TD.
