Hello everybody!
I'm a 2007 Toyota Tacoma owner. This is the fifty Tacoma I have purchased new.
I have been ever so happy with my trucks except this time.
My Tacoma when coming for a stop, after a few second lurch fwd a foot or two and I feel this clank? like I have been rear ended by another drive.
I have taken the truck to three different dealers, and they tell me that is normal????
My other trucks never did that and it can not possible be normal. I filed a complaint with NHTSA (1-888-327-4236) and I call Toyota (1-800-331-4331) First I was treated like crap by a nobody named Jonh, second he offended my intelligence, third he told me that Toyota knows about the problem but they are not doing anything about, don't know what do to do about, don't know what the solution is., my solution is a new truck?
I think that everybody that is having this problem should file a complaint with any body that will listen, and possibly start a class action law suit.
Any body feel free to contact me at:skymaster44@hotmail.com
Thanks
Tony P.

I'm sorry... it is the fifty toyota I have owned. I trade my last one because of sludge on the engine (2004 tacoma four door) The 2007 has transmission cooler and engine oil cooler. It did not help.
P.S. I don't wish to be Bill Gates

I have taken the truck to three different dealers, and they tell me that is normal????Not to burst your bubble, but sadly, it seems to be normal. Many 2005+ Tacomas do that, including mine. I adapted by holding the brake pedal more firmly, and I'm used to it by now so I hardly ever notice it. There have been threads here and on other boards discussing the problem, with different probable causes, and I'm not sure it has ever been definitively proven to be any one thing.

Hi, I have the 07 Tacoma 4X4 TRD. I taking my truck in to Toyota today so they can look at it again to see if there is anything they find wrong. When you are at a stop while in drive there is a thump after brake release and slight acceleration. Along with that, there is a shudder when backing up with a slight turn in the steering wheel and coming to a stop. The worst is a harder bump when doing a rapid stop from lets say 15mph. Feels like you are being rear ended. It gets annoying in stop and go traffic here in Fort Worth/Dallas. The tech I spoke to the first time said it was normal. So it is normal to feel like being rear ended in traffic according to him. I get the feeling that they will miraculously find a fix after my warranty expires. Toyota obviously built a POS transmission and its too expensive/ or not cost effective to recall. I have a strong feeling they will find nothing wrong with it today. I will have to look at the technician with a blank look of concern as all I hear is, "Blah, blah, don't let the door hit you in the a**." Maybe if I complain that my transmission locks up at 60mph, I can get them to start reporting that this is normal as well.

Welcome to the boards.... has your truck had the 90L recall done yet (brake/throttle override)? Besides trimming off the bottom of your gas pedal and destroying your all-weather mats (they'll be replaced with thinner mats, so leave your old ones at home if you want to keep them), the recall includes an ECU reflash. Some owners have reported reduction or elimination of the thump after the recall done.

The thump you are experiencing is probable axle wrap. The springs are light so they ensure a smooth ride when unloaded. Try putting your truck in Neutral and coast to a stop. Once stopped, release the brake and you probably not experience the bump from behind. The drive shaft is connected to the rear-end via an articulating spline shaft that slides in and out when you accelerate and brake. The problem is caused when the transmission has a load on on the drive shaft caused by the high idle of the Tacoma, the leaf springs are under a load. Not until you come to a stop and left off of the brake does the truck sit down causing the spline gear in the rear end to line back up and slide all the way back in the rear end causing the bump. Toyota is well aware of the issue, however it is a design flaw of the truck. Go and take a look at the Fore Runner. It has traction bars that prevent any axle forward or rear articulation.

the FIX is to add to progressive add a leaf springs or aftermarket traction bars such as BudBuilt - Traction Bars (http://www.budbuilt.com/new/traction_bars.html).
