i recently purchased a road armor front bumper, and am looking to upgrade my front shocks for the extra weight now. i have a 3" truxx spacer on the front, and wheel size is 295/70/18 with no rub. i was looking at the bilstein HD, dont really want to go with the 5100s or anything that will lift it anymore because of alignment issues. would those be the best bet? or switch to a coilover and remove the spacer to keep the 3" lift?

The best thing would be to get rid of the spacer if it is the style that is all Top-Spacer, and get a set of 5100s. They will give 2.5" of lift. If you don't want to do that, then I would still recommend the 5100s over the HD shocks. They have bigger pistons and much better dampening capability to handle your added weight up front. You can simple put them on the stock (0" of lift) setting, and they will work great.

That is a good point what Yotadan said. You can just use the 5100's and set them so they don't add any height. If you put the bumper on and the front does sag with the 5100's you can always crank them up some.
You could also look into some HD front coil springs and keep your stock shocks.

i thought about the 5100 setup to no lift right after i posted this. as far as just a more HD spring, do you mean like the OME stuff? i plan on upgrading to a set of Icon coilovers eventually, just looking for a decent solution for now if i run into any immediate problems.

No point in spending more money than you have to. Just wait and save a bit and get the ICONs.

Yeah i was talking about the OME stuff, they have HD coils that resist sag and will handle the front bumper weight a lot better.

I will say the OME suspension did well for the weight on the front of my truck. Normal driving, I can't really feel a difference between OME and the $1200 Fox external resi coilovers. Offroad driving at speed, though, definitely a difference.
