Hey Guys,

Newbie to the forum, inheirited my '95 T100 from my dad 10 years ago when he got his first Tundra. No problems to speak of so far, great truck! BUT today when I got in to go the "check engine light" came on. Manual says take to Toyota dealer...just wondered if any of you had solved this on your own? Doing a little research on the web, I found this probably has to do with the emissions system and not to drive to avoid damage to catalytic converter. Is this something that can't be fixed without plugging into computer? How long can I drive with this light on without damage? All comments are welcome.

Used to be able to rent a code scanner from AutoZone, Kragen, PepBoys, etc. in Commufornia:D It's illegal now since they are considered parts houses, not repair houses. If they repair they have to get all of the Bar requirements, etc.

Dunno about Florida? If it is illegal to rent a code scanner, buy one! For around $250ish you can buy a really decent scanner. For that money it will likely not only tell you the code, it will also have the meaning of the code. Plus you can pull codes on friends cars. The cost to have a shop diagnose and fix would probably be more than that.

Once you get the code and the definition just google it. For example: code is po430 search

95 T100 PO430, you will get a bunch of forum entries. Read through and try to come to a conclusion.

My bet would be your gas cap is bad or an O2 sensor went out:afro:

Git something like AutoTap, Scangauge, or Ultra-Gauge. Pull the code(s) and post what it is...it should be Pxxxx...where the x's are digits 0-9. ;)
