I just replaced friend's car battery to Interstate just because I has so many people (mostly mechanics) recommended this brand over any other.
After buying this battery, I found it has pretty short length of warranty compared to other battery brands at the same price range.
It was only 65 months (18 months free replacement) and costs about $79.20. 530 CCA (I-24F)
Autozone has Duralast 600 CCA for $79.99 with 84 months warranty. (24 months free replacement)
Advnace Autoparts has AutoCraft Silver 585 CCA for $81.99 with 74 months warranty. (24 months free replacement)
Costco has Kirkland Signature between $60 to $70 (don't quiet remember) with 100 months warranty. (36 months free replacement if I remember correctly)
From what I know, Interstate, Duralast, and Kirkland Signature batteries are manufactured by same company, Johnson Controls. Not sure who makes Autocraft.
Even though batteries are manufactured by the same company, since their CCA is all different, it probably has a different composition of chemical or metal. So, I could not conclude they are the same because they are from same manufacturer.
Of all of those batteries, Interstate has shortest warranty, yet not much of price difference.
Kirkland Signature is cheapest and have longest warranty, but since it requires membership, (I believe even to get warranty) this may be out of question for many people.
Autozone and Advance Autoparts even installs battery for free. (Not that I really care about that anyway)
I do not understand why Interstate has such a short warranty if their battery is really as good as many mechanics say.
Is interstate battery really superior compared to other brands?
Or is it just because Interstate sells their battery to most auto shops in the US and mechanics just believe it is better because it is all they have been using?
Does anybody have extensive experience with different battery brands and can say one is better than the other?
