Did anyone else see this article? (I didn't see it posted yet)

Toyota recalls 1.7 million cars for fuel leaks - Boston.com (http://www.boston.com/cars/news/articles/2011/01/26/toyota_recalls_nearly_17_million_vehicles/)

The odd thing is, I've noticed that my 02 Tundra that when its running I can smell fumes near the driver side rear tire. I immediately thought there was a leak and took it to a local garage for a pressure test. Came back negative with no leaks, but I still smell fumes from time to time.

Anyone else experience this? Nothing looks wet, i put cardboard under the truck and don't see any drips. Its pretty confusing and I just called my local dealer and there aren't any recalls yet.

Joey

EDIT: I know the article states that most of the recalls are in Japan, but I was curious if anyone else is experiencing the fumes etc.

From reading the article it looks like it is just Lexus models being recalled, and the majority of them are in Japan. I have an 02 4.7 and have not smelled fuel.

I forgot to mention in the original post that it mostly affected in vehicles in Japan, but I bet in a month of so we'll see it affecting US models.

Hmmm, very interesting...I just took my 01 tundra to the shop for a leaking fuel line. Normally I do almost all of my own work, but this time, the line in question has two funky connectors on each end and I have no experience with them. Given the limited clearance above the tank, and the possibility of messing something more expensive up, I took it in to the shop. The line in question is called the 'main fuel tube'(part 77209) and it sprung a pin hole leak about 4 inches from its end at the top of the fuel tank. Don't know if this is covered by the recall as my truck now has about 93k miles on it, but it does raise concern since there were no obvious marks or scratches on the line where it was leaking.

I guess i didn't look hard enough...the line had munch marks on it...it's got to be them d@mn squirrels that have habitated my yard. :blabla:

I just got the truck back and sure enough the line had marks on it. So, no worries on the quality issue. While it was there at the shop, I did get the TRD limited-slip diff put in. :)
