: TPMS sensors and new wheels

Having not really researched the subject until recently looking at tire/wheel packages, I'm wondering how big of a pain it will be to buy after market wheels and get the factory TPMS sensors to work. I ask because Discount Tire Direct tells me that my rig has the sensors, but Tire Rack gives me the option to pay an extra $400 to have new sensors installed......also, what downside is there to not putting sensors in the new wheels (other then having to bend over and check the pressure yourself). I don't really have an issue not running the system, but if it will cause the "low pressure" light to come on, that may annoy me after a while.
Thanks,
Joe

By the way, Discount Tire Direct seems like a pretty good site!!!

The obvious thing is make sure the TPMS from your stock wheels will match the new wheels.

What year is your vehicle?

My 2010 has the ability to read ten (10) TPMS sensors. This is to facilitate the change of Summer and Winter tires if you have that ability.

Driving with the TPMS warning light bugs me too. So I bought a set from Les Schwab here in the west coat. They are spendy but worth it if you tow or carry a load.

I have an 05' DC 4x4.....I didn't realize that the sensor might have the ability to "read" different units.....guess I need to do a little more research to find out how the system actually works.

isn't TPMS part of the valve core assembly on factory rims? Meaning that you just remove & reinstall on your aftermarket wheels?
