Brandon/Jumbo,
Is there anything different that needs to be done with the painted plastic and fiberglass on the exterior of the car? This might be a stupid question, but since I've owned a car, I was told NOT to use wax/polish/etc. on the painted plastic/fiberglass. That doesn't make the most sense, so I wanted to bust that myth if it is for sure the case...or not? I realize you don't want to hit the rubber, but want confirmation on the rest.

I've got the Duragloss 105, and the Meguiars 105 and 205.

I am also wondering if you tape off things like the rubber, etc?

I'm hoping our weather gets up in the low 60s over this weekend. If so, I'm going to try to get some detailing done. YAHOO. Sad note, we just got snow and ice this Tuesday. I haven't been able to get my baby ('97 Mustang Cobra) out of the garage yet. Why again do I live in Wisconsin!?!?!? ;-)

I treat the painted plastics just like I do the painted metal. I will, at times tape things off, depends how much black plastic the car has. Polish is what leaves the marks now a days. Most of the high end sealants dont leave white chalk on the plastics.

That brings up another question. I have a car with some "white chalk" on the black plastic. How do you suggest I get it back to black?

Peanut butter will remove all of the chalky residue left over from waxes and polishes. Just dab a little on a paper towel and lightly rub it over the plastics, and watch the magic happen :)

Jumbo, YOU DA MAN! I can't tell you how much the white chalky crap on the license plate holder on the front of my Cobra has been irritating me for YEARS. It is now gone.

I just spent about 6-8 hours over the course of 2 days detailing my car, and I don't feel like I've done half of it. (OH, and just my Tundra and my wife's SUV left to do--maybe I'll have to quit my job--hehe).
The biggest AH-HA was the detailers clay. NICE STUFF. OH, and I guess the peanut butter. I'm sure you will be hearing a lot more from me in the future. ;-) Only wish you were closer so I could get some hands on tips.

Forever grateful,
Cole

Cole,

Jumbo looks like he's handled this one just fine. I got your call the other day, however its exam time at NCSU and I barely have time to breathe. Sorry buddy.
