I just bought one of these interfaces to be able to connect the laptop to the OBDII connector to diagnose troubles (thankfully, I'm not having any issues, but I was helping my son with his Nissan Altima last weekend and we ended up renting a scan tool from Autozone, so I figured for $30 this would be something handy to have around).

It seems to work well, but the software that was provided is fairly limited in what it can do (I'm sure this can be a very powerful tool with the right software) Since the SW programs that came with are "trial" versions, many of the more advanced features are disabled.

Have any of you either purchased more advanced "full feature" versions of this type of SW or found any good "freeware" and how did you like it??

Thanks

If you have an Android phone, install Torque (free). I haven't tried reading any codes with it yet, but it does show a few things. There's also a full version that is supposed to do more stuff for (I think) $4.99. Might be an iPhone version available.

Thanks. I don't have a droid, but the wife does. The interface I bought has a full sized USB connector on it. They do make one of these that is bluetooth and that would work perfectly with a smart phone.

Hey, I see this is your first post. welcome to the forum
