Replace Alternator in 2003 Tundra
Time required to change an alternator is approx. 4 hours.

- Disconnect battery 10mm nuts.
- Remove the bottom Skid Plate Guard.
- Remove serpentine belt Using a pry bar and 14 mm socket on
tension pulley.
-Remove 1 nut (14mm) and 2 bolts 14mm on the power steering pump. Now the top most bolt has a 14mm nut which you have removed; the end of this bolt requires a star E8 socket. Remove the bolt and push the power steering pump out of the way
-Remove 1 nut and 2 bolts on alternator (two 14 mm top and bottom, middle nut is 12mm). Next remove wire standoff bracket on alternator; this bolt is 10 mm. Now the power output wire and the back wire connector are covered with rubber sleeves. Pull these rubber sleeves back. Then using your 10 mm wrench remove the nut holding the single power output wire. Finally remove the 3 wire power plug-in on top back of the alternator by squeezing the top back tab button and pulling the 3 wire connector at the same time.
- Now with the alternator completely unhooked and un-bolted; and the power steering pump pushed back and out of the way. Grab the old alternator and wiggle and twist it to get it out in front of the power steering pump and up and through in front of the radiator. It will come out after sweating enough.
Then with the old one out; insert the new alternator exactly like the old one came out. You can do this. Once the new alternator is in place push it over the bolts. Get all your bolts started then put your alternator standoff bracket on and tighten it (10 mm). Next plug-in the power connector; it only goes in one way so you can't mess this up. Then put your single power wire over the bolt on the top side of the alternator. Tighten the 10mm nut down on the power cable.
Then go to the power steering pump and get the bolts all started and tighten them up after you get all them started. (14mm) wrench with ratcheting action works best . The top most bolt has a star E8 end tighten this with a star E8 socket; after it is tight then put the nut on it and tighten the nut (14mm) after you have tightened the other two 14mm bolts.
After you have the power steering pump installed and done; then tighten your bolts and nut on your NEW alternator. Make sure that you have covered the alternator wires with the rubber sleeves that protect them.. Then using your pry bar and a 14mm socket insert it over the bolt of the tension pulley and pull it to the left which releases the tension and allows you to install your belt. Do that install your belt and then put your battery connectors back on the tighten them with 10 mm socket.
Put the bottom skid plate on and tighten the 12mm bolts that hold it in place.
You are DONE. GREAT JOB!!!
