I have an '07 Crewmax TRD with the 4.7L engine which means I can pull 8000 lbs. I'm looking to get a travel trailer that weighs about 6500 empty. I know I'll be under the GCRW and the tow limit even with a full trailer but I need to know if anyone else out there can tell me how the 4.7L will pull a 33' trailer that weighs ~7000 lbs? I'm really hesitant to pull the trigger on this camper but it's the perfect floorplan for our family. I live in Texas and would probably be making mostly local trips to state parks with a trip to Disney World and Colorado in a few years.
I'm planning to get the weight distribution hitch and sway control to keep things under control.

It could ..not sure if you would like it ..I pull a 6k trailer with my 2010 dc TRD,has 4.6 and 4:10 rearend,I have toewed from Nevada to Texas,Texas to Florida and down to Port Aransas from North Texas. It did just fine. There were a few times in New Mexico on some long 7 degree climbs that I would have wanted more under the hood.I dont think I would even consider pulling a trailer in the 7k to 8k plus range unless I had more under the hood. This is just my experience and just my opinion

If it were me I would look for a lighter and shorter TTer just to be on the safe side!

X2/ I wouldn't tow that trailer with my 5.7L unless it was local towing without hills. Or, if I were set on this floorplan with the current TV, I would use a Hensley or Propride hitch to eliminate sway.
Two items I strongly recommend if I were you. I would also get some feedback on a trailer forum before you buy. RV.net is useful with this type of question.
If you want to do the calculation properly, I suggest one of several towing calculators. Here's one (http://www.floridagrimms.com/trailermax/).

The 4.7 is 276 hp. That's lots of power, you'll be fine. I pull 6000+ with my Tacoma 2.7 (159 hp) and it handles it no problem. It doesn't take nearly as much power to pull as some people seem to think it does. Seeing as the trailer will be a big sail in the wind, I concur with WD and sway hitch, and brakes are certainly a necessity with that weight. In terms of power, there's no problem.
