: DIY Sequoia Trunk Won't Lock

I have a 2006 Sequoia and I just finished replacing my broken trunk latch. When I re-assembled everything and tested out all of the electronics in the trunk, everything works as expected. But… When I attempt to lock the doors I get the usual single beep, but it is followed 3-4 seconds later with another single-beep. When I check all of the doors they are all locked, except the trunk which is unlocked. I believe I heard something firing in the trunk door, but it never succeeded in locking the door.

The door opens and closes successfully with the new latch.

Does the second single-beep indicate a faiure in the locking process?

I’ve been thinking through exactly what is involved with the locking. Is it possible that I have some extra tension in the latch cable which is causing the latch locking mechanism to not align? I’m planning on experimenting with the tension of the cable to see if I can get the door to lock by varying this tension.

Any other ideas on what could cause this lock operation to fail?

Thanks.
Chris
