I use my Scangauge on long trips. Driving across the desert southwest, I watched my IAT and compared it to outside ambient temp.

What are you guys seeing? Does your IAT agree with outside temp?

I'll add more info and a pic or two after a few people chime in.

While moving I see IAT within a degree of the ambient air temperature. During the winter with the scoop on the highway the IAT are actually lower by a few degrees than the ambient temperature. Not sure how accurate the truck's outside air temperature gauge is.

same here as long as I'm moving it will be within a degree or two.

moving, it's within a degree or two. Stopped idling, it can raise up a bit. Probably latent heat from the engine near the intake.

If you stop for a while, it can really raise up there.

Thanks guys.
My wife kicked me off TS, so I haven't been around in a few days.
I insulated my IAT sensor when I did the intake tract. I just installed a thermometer for outside temp and was wondering what you guys were seeing. I was curious to see if insulating it would reduce false reading due to a "hot" sensor. I am usually on, or within a couple degrees until traffic. I also have a cold air setup that pics up air from my fog lamp delete trim.
Looks like minimal help, if any, regarding accuracy.

Where is the IAT sensor mounted on a 5.7? I haven't gotten around to plugging my Scangauge into the Tundra yet so I can't tell you what mine reads. I did a lot of experimenting with IAT on my supercharged Dakota and I think the best I ever got was about +7° ambiant at highway speeds.

It's part of the Mass Airflow Sensor.
