It is a Reece 2" drop but it seems like a straight one would work better. Not sure what it would change using the straight hitch. Thoughts?

I can't tell from the picture but the trailer should ride level and not higher or lower than the rear. You need whatever hitch accomplishes that.

You should really consider a weight distribution hitch of some kind. You are unloading the front axle on your truck and you are probably over the weight carrying capacity of your recieiver as most are rated for around 500 lbs in weight carrying mode.
